Help Inducing Devit on Float(tempered) Fusing temperature
Can anyone help me on finding the rite temperature to induce devit when
fusing tempered (float) chunks together for a 16 inch square blank. I really like the devit especially when using for a wall sconce !
thanks Ive already tried
My ramps have been
350-1000-10
700-(fuse)-(hold)
Full-980-2.20
My hold Times are
1520 - 30 mins (just fired clear)
1500- 15 mins (barely even fused) But very kool

Try 1 1/2 hours at around 1760F. (Exact temperature varies depending on your kiln.) Don't clean the glass before firing, and don't be afraid to pray to the devit gods. Good devit is definitely an art form.
Also, go to the Old Archive (button at top right of page) and search for anything on devitrification by Brian Blanthorn. Lots there, though it may take you a few readings to follow it all; Brian has a somewhat unorthodox writing style. (But he is generally acknowledged as the Founder of the Society for the Preservation of Devitrification and is probably the world's most knowledgeable person when it comes to devitrification.)

The glass devitrifies fury or kinda spikey
U can control where u dont want it with anty devit stuff
Glass devits best arround the time it moves so allow it 2 move a little then soak
Watch out if it gets thick it will probably crack as usually incompatabble
Fine sandblasting is pos easiest way 2 get it 2 start
Dont clean it 2 well
U could also paint it with very very fine layer of china clay ( kaolin )
Ur link not work

BE etc is made 2 not devit
As it pools out the devit will rip
By riping n anti devit stuff u can reduce the neucleation points n get nice big cristals
The bace colour of the glass affects the devit
Posted a snow link on devit recently

Brian is the aknowleged master of devit.
You can imitate devit with any of various cream etch or dip etch products. The one I would be looking at is for sale by HIS glassworks.

This may seem kind of off track, or not. I'm not sure what I have here. I put some small pot melts in a bowl of Lime-Away to get some persistant kiln wash off the backs. The tops were nice and smooth. I forgot about them for 3 days, and they sat in the Lime-Away all that time. When I pulled them out tonight, and washed them, they not only dried with what looked like devit crystals, but the formerly smooth tops were eaten into. Every little wave of the potmelt is not only visible, but is actually textured now. And the crystals persist even after washing and scrubbing.
Not what I was going for at all, but did I grow my own devit by allowing the Lime-Away to attack the lime in the glass itself? If someone was looking to induce devit, could they let this stuff do some of the work for them?

U either got cristals there from B4
Or the lime away has cristalised on2 the glass or somethig weird is going on
Like it is desolving the glass which is then cristalising
Some colours will B more suseptabble than others

I am no expert in this fieldBecca wrote:Thanks Brian
My vote is for dissolving, crystalizing and weird.
They have been dumped in a tumble-vibe to try and unweirdify them.
But I do belive some class is made with a cristaline structure like opals n shuch
Glass is actualy a very complex subject once u get a way from the clear stuff
When ever I meet a expert or hear about one on TV
I think I wonder if they know as little about there subject a I do
While we on weirdness there is a branch of glass called glass ceramic
U make it like glass then devitryfy it n turn it into a ceramic like material
