Vermiculite Board

Post by Terry Crider »

I am building a small kiln (a cubic ft.) --- I've seen different boards mentioned to line the kiln with.
Delphi Glass has a Vermiculite Board (their number 92807) --- is this something that will work for the inside liner?
The outside will be IFB's.
I have ceramic blanket left over from our hot glass/batch days --- but I thought some kind of board would be easier
to work with on the walls.
Thanks,
Terry

I'd put the IFB on the inside. VB on the hotface will break down eventually and give you crumbles in your glass (although vacuuming before every firing will help with that).
Actually, if you lay the brick on the flat (dry, no mortar) you get a 4" thick wall that won't need anything else, not for liner nor coldface backup, no metal jacket either.
Use fiber board for the lid and suspend the elements in quartz tubing (assuming a top-loader).
