11" disc - 12" mold

Post by Franzeska »

What problems should I anticipate if my fused disc is 11" but the bowl mold is 12"?

Is it a very bad idea to slump my 11" disc into the 12" mold?

TIA

No problem except getting the disc centered.

You could use a circular bubble level to ensure the glass is parallel to your shelf. If the top of your mold is flat and even all the way around, you could put a straight edge across the mold and measure the distance to the glass. Do this at 3 or 4 points around your piece.

If your slumping temp is too high, you may get some rough or sharp edges if the glass "drags" against the inside of the mold. Low and slow and you should have no problems.

The bowl came out just fine. It now needs to be polished.

Thanks for the advise and encouragement.
