Sandblasting Setup Advice Please

Post by BillsBayou »

I'm looking to set up a sandblasting unit in my workshop. Since this is going to cost over $1000 and I am not a commercial glass artist, I'd like to get this as right as possible in the first attempt.

I am a hobbyist making glass projects for gifts and art in the house. My workshop is a 10'x20' powered shed 50' behind my home. I have a 14" paragon clamshell kiln.

To power a proper compressor, I'm hoping that my 3500-watt gasoline-powered generator will do the trick with its 240v outlet. This means the sandblasting will not be a quick on-demand setup, but that is okay.

TP Tools has a "Hobby Pro HP-75" hood plus HEPA dust collector for $549. I think this may be what I need. Feel free to change my mind if necessary.

Then all I would need is a compressor recommendation and a Dust Deputy.

Everything I know about sandblasting, I've learned from these two pages:

The TP Tools unit is a good one. Get the smallest nozzles they sell.

What's the amperage of your generator? You can get a decent 240v, 20amp compressor that generates 10 to 12 cfm, which would work fine if your generator works with that.

The generator has a 240v 20amp socket.

That site has some great information. Thanks.
