This piece was made by Robin Mix. Can anyone tell me what does MURINI means? Her work is great and I think done as a roll up.

think of a pattern bar. a hunk of glass built up of other rods, slabs, etc. fuse into a bar. and instead of being saw cut into slices, is heated and pulled into a BIG stringer. then take slices off that.

la murrina (singular), le murrine (plural)

Cross-sectional pieces of cane. An age-old Venetian technique by which bundles of cane (rod) are assembled, heated and stretched so as to create specific imagery within the resulting cane.

I lifted the definition from, "Advanced Glassworking Techniques" Edward T. Schmid

What can be done with murrine is incredible. Check out the work of Dinah Hulet. She makes portraits in murrine http://www.dinahhulet.com
