I have received several requests to return to the old board format.
Please take a moment to register your vote on this topic.

Keeping this site but having only a main forum and a classified forum to match the format of the old board?
Or are you thinking of dropping this site program and returning to the old site program?

Re: Vote on board format
The second option. I've been asked by several people to drop this new software and go back to the old one.Jerry Barnett wrote:Does return to the old board format mean:

I could set the old one up with more than one board if people want that, but it wouldn't be anything like this new board software.

In mho, going back to the old format will not magically fix everything that some folks think is broken. It is impossible to "ungrow", and things are never exactly the same as you remember them.
Also, for me and i'm sure others, it is much easier to find stuff/topics now than it used to be on the old board - lists were getting longer and longer as more people posted.
If you want a warm fuzzy place to be more "spontaneous", maybe a linked chat room would be a good idea. One could ask emergency questions and socialize a bit, if they desired.
I come here for straight information on fusing and related topics. The social aspects and sense of community are just a nice added benefit.

The world is changing and accepting change at an exponentially increasing rate is how it is.

board format changes.
Having cast my stone, I would like to see one change if it is at all feasable.
That would be to somehow keep track of the messages in a threrad that you haven't read. Sometimes I inadvertantly visit the board with a different browser and then when I come back, I don't know which messages I have read and which I haven't.
That is the only complaint that I have. (':D')
Very Happy
Thanks for your hard work, Brad.

Brad...this new format is just fine. Much easier to navigate to read topics of interest.
Perhaps a Warmglass IM chat room could bridge the gap between the mostly tech forums and our perceived losses of interpersonal connection. I imagine the success of a chatroom of this type would depend on having dedicated moderators who would commit to be present to share the workload during the hours the chat is open.
With our increasing number of global participants - how would open hours be determined? Would it be a monumental undertaking to keep the chat room open 24/7?
Is this even a feasible idea for the Warmglass board?

Missing out..........
This is actually my first post with the NEW board. I find it to be horribly cumbersome and awkward. I am not very computer savy. But the OLD board was alot easier to navigate. It was up to me....to decide which post I wanted to read............or Not. Now I have to check the various selections and catagories. I haven't been on the board much because it seems to take a long time to figure where, what , and how. I loved the old board. I checked in every day. Oh well..........here's to the OLD board.

Hi Paul...Paul Tarlow wrote:Did you ever meet anyone who, as an adult, bought the house they grew up in and moved back there?
Inevitably they find out it really isn't the house that they missed.

No... do you know anybody who bought the house they grew up in?
I can only speak for me (duhhh) but it's not about trying to recapture the past, or nostalgia. It's about simplicity and community, rather than fragmenting. As you know, during the lifespan of the old board, it evolved & evolved & evolved. A feature of evolution is.... dead ends. Is it a house or is it evolution or is it Memorex?

No, No, a thousand times No Don't go back! This board is a BIG improvement. The old board was like getting my Washinghton Post with all the stories scattered randomly throughtout 100 or so pages. Now I have a Sports Section, a Style Section, a Business Section, etc. The information is organized and easier to access.
There are little things that we have to learn like hitting the Select a Forum instead of the back button to go to the next topic. A little time spent learning how to use the board will pay tremendous dividends. Keep it Brad!

brad,
please KEEP this style. i love being able to read all the way through a thread without clicking, going to newest posts within topic, posts since last visit. it took awhile to figure it out (not totally comp. literate) but worth the effort.
thanks for all your efforts,
linn

new board is great
i liked the old board because it was all there, on one page, and i liked to see the board change in almost real time, but the new board for me is better, its more than one board, its split up into specialties, so for me its easier, i say stick with the new board, but brad, whatever is easy for you is fine with me,,,,rodney

Here's a slightly different opinion
I'd like to go back to the old board format, but have it split into topics like the current one is.
Here's why. I use a very old Mac and a decrepit version of NetScape. We aren't going to buy a new computer soon and we can't upgrade to a new version of NetScape because that would require our upgrading to a new OS on the Mac. I use a bunch of decrepit, no longer supported application software to keep all kinds of important records for my business. Upgrading the OS might mean that my decrepit old application software would no longer work. So, to make a long story short, we can't upgrade NetScape because it might break my business software. One of these years, David will have time to check it all out, but the for time being, that isn't going to happen.
The old board software gave my poor old system fits once in a while, but I figured out how to work around it. This software gives my system fits almost every time I try to post. I often have to restart NetScape or reboot my system to be able to post. LOL. Poor old computer...it goes into hyperspace and never returns.
What I liked about the old software was that it was easier to keep track of which posts I'd read and which I hadn't. I could more easily choose what to read and what not to read. I find opening a thread in this format kind of overwhelming...so many posts...and not in order of posting. EEEK! I get lost among the posts.
Anyway, that's my two dollars on the subject (this is too long to be my two cents.
