How do I make a 1-piece shelf from a 3-pc. shelf?

Post by Pamela B. »

I have a new Evenheat 2542 kiln with a three-piece shelf and would like to be able to make something larger than what each individual piece can accommodate. What is the best way to span the gap between pieces? A single sheet of fiberboard?

I have a big Evenheat as well and cut those 3 shelves up for dams. I use a Unifrax HD 1 and 1/2" duraboard as a shelf instead, sitting right on the kiln floor......works just fine.

Thank you thank you thank for the suggestions. Now, why doesn't Evenheat suggest this solution? Or the distributor from whom I bought the kiln? What's the point to having a 3-piece shelf if one wants to make one big thing? Or, as was my intention, to make four 14" plates? Grrr.

Don't forget to rigidize the board.
