Kiln Sitter vs. Controller

Post by Lexie »

I have a Duncan Ceramic Kiln, Model#Dk 716-2 with a kiln sitter, Model#Lt3K. Can I replace the kiln sitter with a programmable controller? If so, what brand will work & how do I do it?

Yes you can easily disable the sitter. As to which controller, check the archives. If you do not have electrical expertise, you should enlist the help of an electrician when it comes time to making the whole thing work.

Don't disable the sitter, just add a controller.

You can use the sitter as a fail-safe to cut the kiln off if the controller malfunctions and the temperature gets too high -- just put a cone in it that's higher than you'd normally fire the kiln.

Then get a standalone controller that the kiln can plug into. Lots of folks make these, including Orton. Several of the kiln manufacturers also offer this kind of model.
