Hot spot in Quickfire 6 kiln

Post by dblood »

Hi again,

I notice my Quickfire kiln is significantly hotter in one corner. What causes this? Is there any way to even out the heat so I can use the whole shelf area?

Thanks

Hi,
I guess after some thought, I also have a significant hot spot in my 6 inch kiln where the heating coil ends, but I kinda let it pass. Is it near where the coils end near the top of the firing shelf.
Is the hot spot in the corner or the side and where is it in relation as to where the temperature probe comes out into the kiln.
This might give some idea as to how to handle the problem.
Any idea the degrees difference in each corner or side away from the temperature probe.
I always used to put the light colors of the Wasser or BE in that corner and the medium colors in the centre and the darker
colors around the opposite side.
Maybe this is why my 4 inch tiles crack so easily, except with a really
slow ramp up and slower ramp down - always thought it was an annealling
problem. Can you muffle that corner/side a bit with fibre board.
Maybe someone out there knows who also has a 6 inch kiln.
I still like the kiln though.
Regards and good luck.
