Well fun fun . Creating large Feathers for a show called "Return of the Ruffled Feathers" and these are colour bar slices and will soon be feathers suspended from a bronze Branch. So kiln is on and we shall see how they turn out. :-k We are trying to do a branch that will surround the gallery wall with 30 feet of metal branchs with birds and wings and feathers all hanging . Each artist gets 3 feet of metal branch to embelish in any way they desire. this is how I am going to do it with feathers and a Birds nest with eggs in glass. So hopefully we will get at least 7 artists who are interested in creating the continuous piece. It will bind all our techniques in glass together on the walls of the gallery ; as the flame workers , blowers, kiln casters and painters are hopefully going to get involved. Should be a totally unique experience for some . It will be a post GAAC conference in May of this year and sooooo much fun. We are having a gallery walk , and group show with all glass artists in our community in the Canadian Rockies.

Well I am happy with the firing and now to slump . Over fused alittle more than I wanted but they will be safer for hanging and people touching them which people usually do. So probably better in the long run. Les

Here are more components for the hanger with Feathers and the panel to be a part of the whole piece.

Les,

Some of the components are great pieces in themselves.... [IMHO, of course]

Hi Havi, I could take the whole 6 foot section apart after the show if I need to and will make it so that each piece is a click-up so that it is ready for something else , but for now all the other artists are truly enjoying the spirit of thinking big and creating many pieces that will all flow from one BRANCH to the next , and we will share pieces so the flow and transistion is good hopefully. Then the panels and art pieces sit in front of the Branchs with the wings and feathers and nuts and accorns. :-k Les
P.S. figured out how to turn this so it views better.

Here is one of the finished metal forged branchs but we are changing the back hooks . Also mine has a metal birds nest in it . Here is what our show is about. It is wonderful working with other artists to create a gallery space that has a theme and with the returning stunning birds every year, I thought this would be a good theme for the group.

Soaring above the profoundly beautiful , majestic and dramatic mountains they return . Over the wind swept high mountain peaks and blue rivers flowing they return. Through tranquil and turbulent skies they return. Unrelenting perseverance of birds to travel for thousands of miles to raise their young. Over ridges and rivers and valleys they soar , retuning to their nests, our feather friends . Our Columbia Valley sings the sound of their beating wings into our human souls as we watch our winged friends fight for survival ; bringing with them sounds of spring and new life.
Columbia Valley Glass : Breaking Borders is a show like no other. It is breaking down the myth that glass is only a vessel one drinks out of, or views the world behind glass walls, keeping the elements out. This show is about beating the odds, about collaboration and sharing of visions, of going beyond ones comfort zone , of creating a show that will make the viewers soul soar to new hights .
We have a diverse glass community in the Columbia Valley. We all work in our studios on our chosen passion for glass, creating pieces of art on a large and small scale, but each having it's own unique statement and vision of visual interpretation. Through collaboration we hope to step out of our very insular creative spaces and share it with many from around the world who will travel to our vibrant community. By creating a space that will not only flow from one piece of art to the next , but that speaks to our hearts of how lucky we are to live in such a colourful, and diverse community, we hope to bind us together in one simple song , interpreting the splendor around us.
This show is to finish off the Glass Art Assoc. of Canada conference in Calgary , AB and we are hoping that others will want to travel to our beautiful mountain community to take in our gallery walk and joint show. :D

Les, I've been meaning to ask you about your nests - which I love. Do you slump your nest glass directly on the metal branches you have made? It looks like a perfect fit.

Hi!! no I cut thick Fiber and place in a very large mold in the shape of the metal. It gives such a wonderful deep slump. Les

Each group that hangs is attached with a catch to the back of the branch that has loops in it. This way it can be taken apart easily.
