Sulfur bearing? - Copper bearing?

Is there a way to recognize different minerals in the glass ( sulfur, copper, etc.) just by looking at it? I know certain minerals create certain colors, but after all the reading I've done, I've started to realize that a completely different color from what I thought a single mineral would create, can be created by mixing a couple of different minerals. Does a person just need to know from the manufacturer what exactly they're buying?

Bullseye glass has a chart that tells you with their colors. I only use Bullseye and float, so I don't know about other suppliers.

Here is a link to the Bullseye chart:

Thank you! I was looking for something like this on the BE site, but somehow I didn't find it!

The Spectrum chart is really only good for copper, although it's probably the best I've seen in terms of strength of reaction. It doesn't do much about sulfur, silver, lead or selenium.

Rule of thumb: Anytime you're putting a cool-colored glass with a warm-colored glass, check the reactivity charts. I did a few posts about this, and this one has a bunch of different reactivity resources: http://www.morganica.com/bloggery/2011/ ... reactions/

Thank you Dana! I found the System 96 chart after I looked at the BE one!

Thank you Morganica! I will definitely read your blog tomorrow! That is a good rule of thumb!

Fair warning, her blog is addictive. I lost more than a few hours of sleep to it when I first found it. It is huge and full of treasures.

1. Take seriously the Haleybach warning!

2. I try to keep a reactivity list on my site
http://lauri.lsd.dk/lasi/mater/be-col-eng1.html

I try to keep it updated - now it is lagging :-(

behind the Notes column there are more info. All user experience is more than welcome there. Don't hesitate to submit.
