Kiln Question

I am totally new to fusing and slumping of glass and don't know much about kilns.

I acquired a Paragon Fusion 7 Kiln when I purchased the entire inventory of a stained glass studio that went out of business a couple of years ago. Now I want to learn how to use the kiln.

Question: I noticed there is a circular hole on the side of the kiln. Is there a part that goes into this hole? If so, what is the part? Or is this hole for venting only. Can someone explain?

Thanks!!

Although I do not know this kiln in particular....it is probably a peep hole so that you can view your work during the firing. Stuff it with fiber blanket or a peep plug that you can get from a pottery supply house.

nice little video about this kiln on tube

Do you have a pyrometer? If not, that's what goes in the hole.

It depends on how big the hole is. A small hole would be for a pyrometer or thermocouple and a large hole ~1-1/2" would be for a tapered peephole plug.

The hole in the side of the Fusion-7 is for a tapered peephole plug. Remove the plug from the hole to vent the kiln or to view the interior during firing.

Here is a link to the specifications and instruction manual for your kiln. By the way, the 48-page manual was just published last March. Anyone on Warmglass is welcome to download the manual.
