float glass

Post by archie »

evening, I would like to try making a bowl, app 12 - 14" across , out of float glass, Is there a schedule somewhere for float, I'm not having much luck finding one. Does anyone know if the preprogramed scheds that come with the "Skutt GM814" are for float? Would I fuse together at least 2 pieces of glass to get a decent thickness? thanks for info, archie

I've done a number of bowls from float and haven't done anything special other that adjusting the anneal temperature to 1050 f. Float glass seems to stand up to a lot of abuse on heat up. I use about 1500-1525 for full fuse in my kiln.

The only problem you might have is devit and a little borax will fix that.

Two layers of double strength float give a nice heavy wall and two layers of 1/4" make an impressive bowl. You don't really need to dam two layers of 1/4" float but don't over cook either.
