Glues - Update

This seems to the year when all of my tried and true glues are either running empty or have expired. I have been using the same bottle of White Rain Extra Hold Unscented pump hairspray for years, but when I went to the dollar store to buy another bottle, the new version has "active botanicals". I am glad to report the botanicals burned away clean, and I am glad I purchased two bottles this time.

Also, my long-time UV glue supplier, Peter Dewey, who represented Dymax, retired a couple of years ago and the last of the UV glue I purchased from him also is just about gone. It has been somewhat of a challenge to find another supplier, even though the representatives were very nice and knowledgeable, because I am such a small purchaser. I am still experimenting, but I was directed to the following website by one of the representatives. The owner of the business is very knowledgeable and is willing to work with craftspeople and sell small quantities.

Tangent was recommended to me by Tom Fuhrman for UV glue, but I was too small to make a minimum purchase. However, Tangent did recommend the above website, and I appreciate Tom's assistance.

Unlike White Rain, UV glues have a one to two year shelf life, so I do need a reliable supplier.

Bullseye's Mailout this morning promotes a new video on using French cleats. The adhesive they recommend is Dow Corning 995 Silicone Structural Sealant (8617). I haven't watched the video so am not aware of weight restrictions. It may not be transparent either as it's for attaching cleats.......just passing on the reference. Jen

Hi All,

I have a new project coming up emphasizing lamination of plate glass. I have had quite satisfactory experiences with Loctite 349 and direct sunlight as my UV source. I saw the Nano470 recommendation, and wonder:

1. What are your current favorite clear UV curing glass glues with bond strengths that are comparable to the strength of the glass itself?

2. What are your current recommendations for hand-held artificial UV sources for curing? (I followed Bert's link, but the seems to be some link rot on the product site). Are portable UV-C water/hand sanitizing lamps appropriate?

Cr LAurence sells many different types of UV glues, and have a larger variety than the CLK website. They also appear to be cheaper than the mentioned websites. I buy large amounts from CR Laurence and have great success.

Loctite is my go to almost exclusively. Get their catalog and there is an adhesive choice page showing what it bonds to, substrates etc. They carry everything from uv to epoxy, rubber etc.
