Here I am again.
Just fused a plate, and on some parts of the cut pieces, there's a white outline. Is this devit? The base is clear with transparent pieces added.
Thanks again.

Hi Kay,

It's quite possibly devit, especially if you ground the edges or cut the pieces out with a ring saw.

If the edges are ground, it is snall glass particles which always read white. Grind to a finer grit before fiiring.

Another thing that could be causing the white edges is not thoroughly washing the glass before you fire it. When you tile saw cut or grind pieces, bits of glass may be left on the edge that will turn white when you fire them.

Wash, wash, wash and dry your work before firing.

Good luck!

Also, as a bit of insurance, you can paint the edges (or spray the whole thing) with Superspray. It's the only thing I have found that works consistantly.

I fuse a lot of fish -- double layers of glass, cut on a Taurus. I ALWAYS paint the edges before firing to avoid the "white" look.
