Cut a half sheet of clear and butt against 1/2 sheet of first colour. Place your circle cutter in the middle of the join, score half circle on the colour sheet, adust length in 15mm, leave base as is, run second score. Replace colour sheet with second colour, score with same setting as previous, adj...

Re: Shall I buy a new kiln???
Hi Havi, I am in Australia (220v / 50Hz) and have 2 paragons, the GL18 (front loader) is fantastic, it also comes in a 24 if you have enough amps to run it. The ovation (coffin) is v.ordinary and I would steer clear (lid doesn't float, big cracks and bricks crumbling after 2 months use)

Both will work fine, I fire my ovation with no plugs, and have used fibre blanket when I've broken plugs

Re: Kokomo for fusing?
Hi Terry, no ideas about sheet alternatives (I just ordered what I assume will be my last crate of clear s96 which should last me a year). For frit and powder I've been using gaffer for the past 12 months with good results, i'm using mainly transparents ( lead base) and firing up to 6 times with s96...

Re: Giant clam
Thanks guys Kevin, I'm working on getting shell like textures on the outsides, my husband thinks I've lost the plot, I used spend my time coldworking to get a smooth surface, now I spend the time fusing texture into it. Haydo, I'm in Darwin, we spend time on the water not in it (too many snapping ha...

Re: Aussies 1mm fibre paper
Hi Kevin I'm a smoker (shame Fiona shame) so am already high risk for lung disease, when I first started using KL board I was horrified by the amount of dust I was exposed to, ditto fired papyrus. While they've run all sorts of tests on fibre products and say it's relatively safe I'm pretty sure the...

Aussies 1mm fibre paper
I've been using this chinese product (CCE wool) for the last week and am very happy with it. Crackle, wafers are both good, no embedded residue when I pot melt (920c) straight onto it. I vent to 440c and use the furrier side up. No affliation just a heads up, also got a roll of 1" blanket for m...

Re: fusing a long vase
Are you trying to fuse and drape in a single firing? I've had some success doing this with float but not softer glass. I'd fuse the blank then slump/drape at a lower temp

Hi Jan, I'd say it was the no hold that caused the problem for 1 1/2 " (37mm) I'd hold for 6 hours. 30 mins for every 3mm. Then cool from 510 to room temp really, really slowly ....

Re: spray kiln shelf
I've been using one of these and am thrilled with the finish, I do 4 or 5 coats of primo, empty after each use and spray clean water through after so it doesn't clog up. I've been using it for texture tiles and don't lose any detail, you pump the top and it comes out like it's from a compressor http...

Re: Making your own..... shards
I've always thought confetti and shards were the same thing but did start as a lampworker, mark what you call shards I would class as mosaic frit. I wonder if terminology differences are regional, or depend on the books we've read or the teachers we've had?
