Adjust firing schedule after multiple firings?

I'm using COE96. I'm going to be working on a project that may require up to 4 firings. I'm testing some small tiles and after the 3rd firing, I'm seeing some slight incompatibility between Oceanside clear, bronze, and light amber. I have not changed the firing schedule for any of the firings. Do I ...

Incompatible color?

I did some test tiles using clear OceanSide 96 with Youghiogheny, Wissmach, and Oceanside colored transparent. I used the two polarized sheets on a light table to see if there were any incompatible pieces. The Shamrock Green Youghiogheny looked to be the only color that was incompatible with Oceansi...

Buying a used belt sander

I've been reading other posts about wet belt sanders but I'm not sure that I will be using it a lot other than smoothing out edges, so I thought about just buying a used belt sander and use the spray oil. I found 2 on CraigsList but I'm not sure if they will work well with glass. What do you guys th...

Re: Help buying a Controller

What is a power relay? I have two boxes, one is the digital controller and the other is a box that the kiln plugs into, then the box gets plugged into the wall, which provides power to the kiln.

Re: Help buying a Controller

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm getting the GB1 from Digitry, saving me $200.

Help buying a Controller

I have a Paragon kiln and I'm looking to buy a controller. I've been in contact with Paragon but the controller they suggested is over $900, I was hoping for something around $600. My kiln does have an unique plug, it's a 4 pronged plug, Volts 120/240/3W, Amps 25.9, Phase 1, Watts 6226. The outlet i...

Making color bars in a ceramic kiln

I want to experiment with making color bars (I think that's the term), but I have a kiln that heats from the sides. Since the glass will be surrounded by dams, is it possible to make these bars? Will the dams allow enough heat to get to the glass? Disclaimer: I'm new to glass fusing so forgive me if...

Re: Ceramic kiln with manual controls (low, Med, High)

I practiced on several bottles last night. It looks like they turned out all right. It was a very long process, I should have started much earlier, haha. It was harder to keep a constant temperature once it reached the peak level. One of my little bottles fell on the bottom is now stuck. I guess the...

Re: Ceramic kiln with manual controls (low, Med, High)

Thanks to the both of you for giving me hope, haha. I thought for sure I just flushed money down the drain by buying this kiln. I will have to try your suggestions this weekend when I have the time to sit with the kiln.

Re: Ceramic kiln with manual controls (low, Med, High)

Thanks for that explanation. I will try this. I don't really know what temperature "Low", "Meduim", and "High" are translated into.

Re: Ceramic kiln with manual controls (low, Med, High)

What I mean by "ceramic" is that it has the heating coils in the side, none in the top.

So do you have to sit by your kiln and constantly monitor the temperatures?

Ceramic kiln with manual controls (low, Med, High)

I'm new to glass fusing and I thought I found a good deal for a kiln on Craig's List, so I bought it (not smart). It has two temperature controls that read (low, Med, High). I did buy a pyrometer so I can get a more accurate temperature reading. I have not tried fusing any glass yet, but I do have s...
