Re: Giving it away
Judd- Some years ago, I did two tutorials for glass magazines that included hours writing logical instructions as well as hours of staging and editing photos....all for that promised "exposure". Never got one order, student, or new gallery out of that arrangement. To make it even more unpl...

Re: and I thought the economy was bad
They probably had problems with the entire stock they already had on hand and didn't want to bother sorting through/throwing out/losing money on the ones that were defective. Most likely the plating was all done overseas too (no way to recoup their loss). Hope you can find a better supplier :( DOLORES

Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit
Rick, you have so made my year!! I have spent hordes of time and money on overpriced and often underperforming discs and drill bits. In general, the economy ones last longer and are more durable. 60 grit flat lap discs, oh yeah, I'm all over that!

Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit
I either A) push the plug out from the side slots using the post of an old 2mm or so drill bit ( one you don't mind getting bent in the process), or, B) take the core drill bit out of the drill press and push the plug out with a 3mm bead mandrel. sometimes using the bead mandrel requires a few taps ...

Re: New work, updated website
Valerie and Barry, I thank you kindly! The pieces dedicated to my mother are precious to me. She had a major brain aneurysm two years ago, and is lucky to be alive. She now lives in assisted living and doesn't/can't cook anymore. She liked the piece (although she's not sure WHY I felt so inspired by...

Re: workshops in Los Angeles
Raphy, Check out local ceramic shops. Often you can rent kiln space there and they sometimes even offer simple glass fusing classes. Just a few I found on Google: http://www.fishceramics.com/ (Simi Valley) http://www.aardvarkclay.com/ http://www.muddysstudio.com/ http://www.villageartproject.com/ (t...

Re: Shipping to France from the US
. . . but if you consider that cost as advertising, resume enhancement, and a possible sale, it becomes bearable, especially at the start of their career. Maybe yes...maybe not. This is akin to the "donating to the Pilchuck auction will/won't boost one's career" discussion. I did mention ...

Re: Shipping to France from the US
Marty- I might need that and a stiff drink as you'll see below... I have a wee bit of knowledge that might come in handy for all you aspiring glass (or otherwise) artists in regards to international exhibitions: Being invited to an international show is exciting and quite an ego boost, HOWEVER, unle...

Thanks for the heads up, Bert! UPS is definitely on my short list of options.
Marty- Really wish I could go myself, but the trip to Wheaton Arts pretty much does it for the "mad money" artist's budget.

Oh... if only I could actually trod French sod! It sounds absolutely wonderful, especially the Art Nouveau part. Unfortunately, I'm not going, just the work  I'll get myself online and start researching what UPS, USPS, DHL, and whoever else have to offer. At least it's not a huge box or oversiz...

Shipping to France from the US
Hello everyone! I was recently invited to participate in an exhibition of glass jewelry in Baccarat, France. They are covering all expenses and return shipment once the work is in their gallery. Unfortunately, I am responsible to ship and insure the work to their location. I know that many of you ha...
