As a newbie to the field I often have friends stop by and see what I'm working on. Generally I have a couple of projects happening at the same time and the pieces I've completed are chaotically displayed around my space. Since I am currently working out my home, my friends often feel very "open...

It seems that this discussion topic has been a great tool for everyone to converse about what we all worry about! Thus the original question has served it's purpose. Why do we do what we do? What I was trying to convey before is that motivation can be purely primal, it doesn' have to be deep seated ...

Thats a great story! I guess I would worry about a fire starting in the Kiln if it had that much tape on it! haha I am one of the fortunate males who no longer have to worry about Hair Spray so I don't have that around, I've tried Glastac and it works ok if you're patient enough for it to dry and yo...

I think I might just be being dense. But, how did we get from Scotch Tape to selling wholesale and posting prices? Haha

What a great idea. I've had a couple of pieces lately that have slipped in the Kiln when I closed the lid after venting. I'll definitely give it a try!
Your work is stunning by the way!!

I agree completely. Technique is what makes the object. I just feel that technique and motivation coexist in some very interesting ways!

I'm wondering if people ever only use technique? There is something that has taken them to the process of learning the technique and the desire to "'perfect" it. In the field where we believe "all behavior has meaning", it's not always on a conscious level that people decide wher...

I am new to the world of warm glass and my field of expertise happens to be the area of psychology. I became involved in this work largely based on wanting a medium to express emotion in a minimalist fashion. My work, thus far, tends to reflect that. In Daniel Sterns book, "The Interpersonal Wo...

Any reason you couldn't do both? Maybe it would give you a good baseline for the pros and cons of each of the days. It sounds like you may have the option and it only leaves Friday in between. Just a thought :D

I'd love to get a sandblaster but space and $$ wouldn't work for that right now. Any recommendations on brands of the liquid etching or do you find that they're all about the same?

Etching materials

I'm doing a piece that is combining several different techniques, and I wanted to know what product produces the most significant etching result. The one I've tried barely varies the surface even after sitting on the glass for almost 20/30 minutes? Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks

Pat

Thank you so much for the info. The only person I know right now who does Kiln work with glass lives in Colorado so I'm looking forward to talk to some local artists!
I'll follow up with both of the suggestions!

Learning the art

Greetings! I'm new to the forum and just recently ventured into the wonderful world of Warm Glass. I'm wondering if there are any artists local to Chicago who would be willing to help break in a newbie to kiln technique or if anyone knows of classes/class in Chicago! Looking forward to chatting with...
