Portland is pretty close to me and I had seriously considered both exhibiting and teaching there - but their last 3 shows were so poor I'm likely to not even visit the show. Many of the large companies that usually exhibit at Vegas and the AGA shows won't be there. I won't be surprised if this is t...

This used to be the AGSA (I think that is the letters), now AGA (Art Glass Association). I've been going the past 4 years. It used to be strickly for retailers but has steadily been going down hill due to poor organization of shows, last minute notice of classes (compared to Glass Expo.) Now it is ...

Art Glass Show - Portland Oregon
I got an email about this show this morning. I have never heard of it before - can anyone give me an opinion? BTW I will be there regardless of the reviews. I have done trade shows with this promoter in the past and know that they put on a first rate show...at least for beads, besides I could not re...

I've been teaching people how to launch small business for almost 30 years. My approach is unconventional - some claim outrageous. I'll pass on some unconventional suggestions. BUSINESS PLANS are useful only to accountants and bankers. Ignore them. Creating a new business is like exploring a new tr...

CarolB, When I took Karen Reed's class on Surface Design of fused glass, she said most paint wouldn't adhere to glass unless you sandblasted or etched the surface first. This would remove the slick surface and you might have better luck. Alecia Thanks for the suggestion, Alecia. I do not have a san...

Robyn, please don't take this personally, I don't know you and have no opinion of your work or teaching skills. What I want to know is, does anyone ever fail the PMC certification course? Is it a rubber stamp, you take the course, you're a certified teacher? Is there a tough exam? The reason I ask,...

Re: PMC for glass fusing jewelry
I'm thinking of taking a class. Can people who have experience with PMC comment on the plus and minus of usng the pmc with glass in general? I'm not looing for detail info on the difference between the different PMC's but the overall endeavor. :? Thanks! Terry O. Hi Terry, I used to use quite a bit...

I think that a lot of inexperienced fusers are afraid to post a critique because they only know what they like, not necessarily the right words for why they like it (the negative/positive space and imagry type words) [/quote] As an inexperienced fuser I have to admit that I am impressed by much of t...

Try this -- it is one of the techniques I teach in my Frits and Powders class here in Austin: Enamels work a lot better than powders for this. The amount of powder you get on the glass tends to get lost when fused. The enamels are far more intense and a thin layer holds up very well. - Paul Thanks ...

Stamping on Glass
I have been fooling around with stamps ( the paper crafter type ) trying to use glass paints and micas to create a crisp image. I have not had much luck as the paints are so thin and the glass is pretty slick. Today I heard about a product called Perfect Medium made by Ranger. It is liquid but very ...

Re: Rheostat to control Quickfire Kiln?
The manufacturer of this kiln claims it can be used for bead annealing, porcelain painting, etc, but I believe to do that you need an expensive controller. If that's the case, I guess I just need to save for a bigger/better kiln. Just wondering. Years ago I bought an infinate switch specifically ma...
