l shape
It might be easier to make an L-shape by slumping over something like a piece of angle iron. For making more than one or two, I'd cut and weld some stainless steel to the desired shape, and then give it a good coat of shelf primer. I've made light fixtures this way, and an easy way to line the piec...

copper inclusions
It all depends on how thick the glass is, how heavy and how wide. You just have to test this kind of thing yourself. ch HI Yes I suppose testing is enevitable, but I was hoping to avoid as many problems as possible before trying it. Have you tried firing copper wire between two 6X8 1/8" pieces...

tac fusing L shape
HI
I'm trying to tack fuse two fused pieces 3X2" into an L shape to use as a simple candle holder. I'm trying to use dams today to hold it upright.
Have to wait for results tomorrow. Any ideas?
Thanks

copper inclusions in slumped sconce
Hi, I'm making a fairly simple sconce, but I'm trying to figure out how to fire a copper inclusion to use as a hanger. I've thought about making a tunnel across the middle of the piece with fiber board when fusing and then filling tunnel with copper wiring. HOw thick of copper can I use? Perhaps I c...

Re: Making waves...
HI Thanks for your input. I've lampworked some stringer and that looks pretty cool too. The opaque waves are trapping huge amounts of air and sometimes making interesting bubbles and at other times disaters. I think I'll try fullfusing with them on top of top glass. Also trying some tack fusing toda...

I'm trying to get a sea scape going.
I am living in surfer land in Costa Rica and am trying to make some waves
on tiles. I've tried stringer, slim slices of opaque, and opaque frit. It's not too bad looking, but not quite what I want. Any ideas?

HI I'm having a hard time imagining how you use skewers. Would I, for example, take two layers of glass and sandwich the skewer of bamboo or mandrel in between? Would the tip of the sandwiched part of the skewer be position roughly around the place I want a hole? And the rest hanging out of the glas...

re channels in pendents
Hi thanks for your advice. Also thanks for the new set of glass vocab. A couple of questions. Re drilling: What kind of drill and bit could I use for such tiny holes? Would I have to fire polish the pieces after the drilling? With or without the jumpring? Gluing What is PMC backing? Channels When yo...

pendents and findings
Thanks for advice, I guess I've been a little nervous about peeking in the kiln. It seems so HOT! Also, I was told it could ruin glass if you don't know what you're doing. But probably that pertains to bigger pieces. So, I'm going to give it a go. How do you attach your pendents if you don't use hol...

jewelry
Hi, thanks for reply. A couple more questions. My kiln will fire at 999 per hour. Once I've got it up to 1500, how long do I need to soak the pieces? Also, could you give me any advice on attaching findings. I've tried to stay away from adding anything to the glass, not so much as I'm a purist, but ...

Re: Clear Cabochons
Has anyone ever tried making clear cabochons? Fusing ,Casting, Pressing would all of these be an option? I have someone looking for a handful of them for family picture pendants. I thought I would try to make a few and wondered if anyone else has ever given it a try..(30mm x 22mm) Thanks for any in...

Can you use a phaser to slow down the ramping on those itty bitty kilns? Nah, phasers only work on Klingons, you want a rheostat. Brock Hi Brock, I'm new to pendent making, new to glass really. I've been playing with temps to try and get the right shapes. If I cut squares they with take on circular...

tact fusing
Tack fusing temperatures are higher than slumping temperatures so anything that has a shape and isn't supported in that shape will melt and deform at a tack fuse temp. When I tack fuse (or "sinter" which I've heard it called which sounds cooler) its more a matter of time than temp. After ...

i think you are worrying way too much about this. are the tiles going in a shower or around a pool or some other place where they will be constantly wet? if not they will stick just fine. you can wet sand them or dry sand them or sandblast if you just are not comfy with smooth backs. rosanna What g...

Hi, What's a steel mandrel? V Try bamboo skewers or round toothpicks dipped in thick bead release and allowed to dry. The wood burns out and leaves a hole. The skewers leave a larger hole than toothpicks if that is a consideration. Stainless steel mandrels dipped in bead release also work. Also, mak...

When you say skewers and toothpicks, I can't picture it. My pieces are only roughly 1 1/2 " X 1/2", half the size of rounded toothpicks. How do the pieces I want to fuse stay in place, or are we talking about single layers? I haven't tried it yet as I have no bead release, (I live in th e ...

fiber and holes
Hi,
Have you had any luck with fiber board and beads? I'd like to try.
Right now I'm trying to get holes into medallion shapes for jewelry. Any suggestions?
Thanks
