I've been researching vinyl cutters lately, and was wondering if anybody has any advice or preferences. I was checking out the Roland Stika in particular. Does anybody have it, and if so, what do you think? I'd be using it for designs on dichroic jewelry.

Jim, isn't the glass too thick to cut with the handheld cutters once you've fired it?

I do alot of basic earring & pendant glass cutting: a layer of dichroic, then a layer of clear on top for a cap. I'm wondering if using a tile saw might be more time efficient, and might be a little easier on the old back! I could just lay up a good-sized chunk of dichroic, slap the clear on top...

I just bought a ceramic gold pen and can't get it to work. I marked the glass with it, fired it, and nothing. Am I missing something?

Hi Ann, You can get fine silver bezel wire in various widths, or by the sheet and cut your own. I use 3/16". The thing is, it's flat, so it can be easily inserted between two pieces of glass before firing. After firing, you can stick a thin dowel into the loop and hammer the bail with a mallet ...

You can do the same thing by forming a bale out of fine silver bezel wire and fusing it between two pieces of glass. No need for glue this way.

Has anyone used a beadblaster instead of a sandblaster to carve images on dichroic? The reason I ask is the difference in price...thousands of dollars for a sandblaster in Rio's catalog, compared to about $150 for a beadblaster.

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm new to all this. I have a question: will sandblasting or using etching cream give virtually the same effects? I'd like to make designs on dichroic for jewelry, and am wondering if these two methods are just a matter of preference as far as equipment, costs involved, etc....
