I'm working on my ornaments, and am wondering -- am I supposed to have a participant number to label them with? I received the email in mid-September that I need to send in 40 ornaments for the exchange, and that they should be placed in bags with my name and entry number.
thanks!

hanging multiple fused glass panels together
Hi all, I'm trying to get back into glass fusing after a 2 year break due to a cross country move. Anyway, I'm designing a piece that will hang in front of a window. It will be 10 rectangles, each roughly 8"x11", hung in 2 rows of 5 rectangles each. What I'm trying to figure out is how to ...

I wash the combings and scrape off as much kiln wash as I can first, then soak them in white vineger for 4-6 hours, then wash again with a green scotch-brite scrubbie. So far, it seems to be removing all stuck kiln wash (I use BE) and not scratching the glass (I've had problems with the scotch brite...

firing schedule for small glass
Hi, I know I've seen this information somewhere, but can't find it right now, so I'd really appreciate your input! I've been following the firing schedule for a full fuse in Brad's book which has an initial temp rise of no more than 400 dph to ~1100 (then slow down until 1300 to help prevent bubbles...

CBS dichro transparency
Hi, A few weeks ago I made a pendant by capping a piece of rippled dichro with a piece of dichro on clear (dichro up) and then a piece of regular clear. I like the look and have been trying to replicate it and haven't had any success. I thought the piece I used for the cap was candy apple red, but i...

Ron,
Are these the variegated red, blue & green you mentioned?

I thought Mona Lisa products wouldn't survive fusing?
Thanks!
Michelle

mold questions
Hi, I have a bunch of questions about using fiber paper and fiber board as molds. I have some Kaiser-Lee fiber board that I want to use for frit castings and drop-ring slumps. I've read that "primo primer" is best to use to prep these as it will turn to dust at fusing temps. Can I use othe...

Does Borax migrate?
Hi, I was doing a bunch of compatability tests with regular spectrum (1" squares on clear fusing strips, brought to 1550 for 10 minutes) and I decided to do 2 tests at once by seeing which would require borax to prevent devit. So I put the solution on half of each square. When I took this piece...

Hi,
Both http://www.fusedglasssource.com and http://www.cathedralstainedglass.com
appear to have good prices on system96 glass. I haven't ordered from either place yet, though.
Hope this helps,
Michelle

high-fire with System96?
Hi, I've been learning so much from this board! I came across some pictures of high-fire work, and would like to try and recreate some of the swirly/color-mixing/3D effects I've seen. I've tried two experiments so far with System96 glass (one at 1700 for 45 minutes, other at 1775 for 1 hour) and am ...

temperature limit for kiln wash?
Hi, I tried a high-temperature firing last night (1700 for 45 minutes). It was a really simple experiment -- a pile of glass scraps on top of a piece of thinfire paper. During the soak, the glass pulled in upon itself (as expected) and appears to have wrapped up upon itself, as it left thinfire pape...

Is "creative paperclay" the same as paperclay?
Hi, I found several references in the archives here to using paperclay to make molds. When I was at Michael's today, I picked up a product called "creative paperclay" and I'm wondering if this is the same stuff as the paperclay that was mentioned. The description on the company's website i...

dichroic color change?
Hi,
I've read that dichroic glass will change to a different color when heated. Is there any way (other than experimentation!) to determine what this color will be? Does it depend on the temperature the glass is heated to?
Thanks!
Michelle
