Re: Tempering Bullseye Glass

yes wissmach does "offer" a temperable art glass. http://www.wissmachglass.com/pdfs/TemperableArtGlass.pdf They give almost ZERO info regarding it ie. can you actually fuse pieces together? or just temper the colored stock sheets. Even then good luck getting a tempering company to run it t...

Re: Tempering Bullseye Glass

Art glass as a general rule cannot be tempered. Even a small bubble will cause the piece to explode after tempering. Even float glass that is tempered all the time cannot be tempered if you are fusing anything substantial to it.

Re: Skutt Clamshell element management

Any of these FIXES are opening the possibility to much bigger problems like stuff falling onto your glass.

If it isn't truly broke don't fix it. (imo)

Re: Skutt Clamshell element management

It sounds like you may be looking for a solution without a problem. If you can get 10 years out of it without any really serious issues then maybe you don't need to "fix" it. Besides after 10 years maybe a new element isn't such a bad thing anyway. I've had people look at my element config...

Re: Polishing Puzzle

very slowly, with finer and finer grits then you'll need to go to cork or felt with cerium. To do this by hand would be excruciating (for me) You can get a small belt sander for around $100 that'll make it MUCH easier. http://www.crlaurence.ca/productimages/L/LD118_47079.gif With this you can get in...

Re: troubles testing new kiln

At this point nothing, try again and it's likely resolved its self. Once you've fired the kiln to fusing temps the organics should have all burned out and you shouldn't have any more issues. Was there smoke and a burnt sugar like smell coming out of the kiln the first time you fired with the new fib...

Re: Shipping to France from the US

In my experience insurance is a complete WASTE of time and money. You claim that your art is worth x and they broke it, well they turn around and say PROVE IT. Unless you have sold numerous items very similar for a similar price and can prove that, they'll deny your claim. Now if the item is worth a...

"black glass pebbles" ???

What exactly are black glass pebbles? If it's not a tested compatible glass that's the culprit.

Re: best heavy duty saw for cutting pattern bars

You don't however really need to spend $800 to get a tile saw.

There are some 10" saws available for $200 - $300, they aren't as good as the MK but some of them work just fine. The one I have was $300.00 and I've used it regularly for 5 years without issue.

Shapes or just straight cuts?

A tile saw is the best for straight cuts,

Re: Blade or Wheel Stiffener

Kevin, I've never used a 6" blade so I'll yield to your judgement on that, however I think a 4" stiffener may be problematic as that'll leave only 1 inch of blade exposed which would leave you 3/4" max cutting depth.

Re: Blade or Wheel Stiffener

I wouldn't think you'd need a stabilizer on a small blade like 6" you shouldn't get too much flex out of that size blade. A four inch stabilizer on a 6" blade will leave you maybe 1/2" to 3/4" of usable cutting depth.

Why do you think you need a stabilizer?

Re: Solid State Controllers

I agree with the digitry idea, you won't however be able to have zone controls as a plug and play unit. That would require rewiring the elements to separate relays and thermocouples. I have three kilns running SSR's two of which are running more than 40amps neither has a fan on the controller nor th...

I buy ceramic fiber board from

http://www.burnabyinsulation.com/

I use 1/2" and 1" board and either hand cut it or have it cnc'd depending on the detail.

Have you tried cnc milled fiber board?

That's what I use to make textured tiles, back splashes, etc.

Duralite sells them, you may want to consider the quartz tubes, that's what I've used in the kilns I've made.

Dick,

nice job, crazy color.

What's up with the double row of rollers. Is that something you made or had made? Looks interesting.
