Leveling kiln shelf

I'm going to put a kiln shelf on the floor of the kiln, so it is permissable to level that with a few pieces of thin tile shims? Or should I put the self up off the floor on the 1" supports that came with it, and then level those? These are the kind of things I can't find in the books I have! T...

Thanks

Thanks for all the replys. I will be heading out to Lowes tomorrow as it is right next door. Didn't want to use any taboo tactics on my first attempt. Any kiln workers in Central Florida?

Haik brush substitute

What kind of brush can I use instead of a HAIK brush for painting on shelf primer? I don't have any available shops around here, and don't want to wait to order one. Thanks

I have been making stained glass for a few years, pics, panels, etc., and have just recently been making hot glass beads with a hot head torch - have to drag them to my glass dealer so he can anneal them for...

Using a piece of copper plate as a fusing base

Has anyone ever used a sheet of 1/16th inch thick copper as a base to fuse glass on? I don't want the copper to stick to the piece, it's just so smooth I wondered if you could use this instead of a shelf. Also, I am able to purchase it much cheaper than a kiln shelf, so if it messes up or gets glass...
