Re: 7' bubble in bowl during slump

Brad,
I refired the bowl to flat and then slumped all at your recommended
schedule and it worked perfect. Thank you for your help.

Re: 7' bubble in bowl during slump

It seems the mold hole was not fully clear but I have cleared it out. My husband suggested just slumping again. Thoughts? Schedule?

7' bubble in bowl during slump

I slumped a beautiful (mostly iridized) 20 inch bowl in a 22 inch pottery mold. It developed a 7 inch diameter bubble near the center. I need a schedule to re slump or to flatten it and re-slump it in order to save it. Here is the flat firing schedule. Ramp 300-1100 degrees, 30 min hold, Ramp 250 -1...

shipping large glass on containers on ship

I have 10 pieces of fused glass approximately 20x30” each to transport by container on ship. I am told they do not handle them with care. I plan to put them in a wooden crate and pack them with foam and bubble wrap. Do you have any experience or recommendations that would be helpful. I certainly wou...

Re: sumping large 9mm piece over stainess steel

Thank you very much for all of your input. It was all very valuable. I appreciate your expertise. According to my assessment the piece did slump fine and the cracks were clean and fresh. I heard the noise in the kiln after the slump cycle. Would you have any advice on changing the temperatures on th...

Re: sumping large 9mm piece over stainess steel

Thank you Warren and Terry I will take your advice into consideration. I have used this mold several times in the past without any problems but always with 6mm instead of 9mm. Could that make a difference?

Re: sumping large 9mm piece over stainess steel

The mold has no sharp angles. Image jpeg is attached.. I used MR 97 mold release which I have used before with this mold. I have slumped several other pieces of 6 mm that turned out fine. Thank you for your help.

sumping large 9mm piece over stainess steel

I am slumping a 9 mm piece of glass 51 inches by 24 inches over a stainless steel mold. it cracked at the annealing stage. it formed around the mold well but cracked in several places. The temperatures I used were 150 degrees to 300 and hold for 15 min. 250 degrees to 800 no hold, 150 degrees to 110...

Re: Safety relating to thin fire kiln shelf paper

So changing gloves and removing them periodically will be helpful. I think more of the problem is the kiln shelf paper. If you use kiln shelf paper, when you remove it, what is your process? I have a large kiln 56"x30", so after the firing when I remove the thin fire paper, the dust partic...
