i would tighten fairly snug with a wrench. the important thing is to put neversieze tm or vaseline on the shaft and nut before assembling. it is the glass dust and possible corrosion that wiull lock things up if you do not lube. rosanna

you can clamp a visegrip onto the blade to stop rotation. a pencil torch on the nut can help. ditto on the reverse nthread maybe . i have a saw that is like that. r.

buy a block of clay and go for it. i think paper clay is best. white clay is better than colored. rosanna

Any decent metal shop can do this. I made molds like that by drilling holes along the edges of the metal and using wire to hold the arc. R.

Kilns are basically self cleaning. Just fire vented to a hundred or so deg f over fusing temp and all is clean. RosannaMark Wright wrote:If in doubt I would put one in the oven first. If it is enamel it will smoke and start to burn off. It is not fun to clean a kiln that has been "smoked" up.

the coated steel/crimps will work just fine. i use that for my hanging stuff. on an aside, it really buggs me to see nice art strung up on monofilimant line. mono degrades in sunlight. end of mono rant. rosanna

you can but sometimes the glass gets stuck on cool down. i use a really soft and thick layer of kiln wash over the top of my regular mold wash to help with this issue. r.

I would glue the bottom net to the solid piece and then press them into a bed of dry plaster or kiln wash. Then I would place the top net on and fire. R. like bert said. wire after firing is 'dead soft'. it i usually hammer it a bit with something plastic or gently bend it to re stiffen. ... yhe long time at high temp does cause oxidation. that fire scale you brush off is made from what was part of the wire. i find that wire drops about one gague in ...

if it is a big champers bottle it will be really thick where the bottom folds over. anneal for at least 1/2" i would anneal for 3/4". r.
