remove fired liquid bright gold
hi there . i have a bowl with thompsons liquid bright gold fired on and i want to take it off. i can not remember if sulphuric or nitric is the acid of chouce. help? rosanna

overkill. mixed is mixed. when it is mixed wet properly it is even . you want to do extra work just because then fine.

why would you mix that dry? you will never get an even mix so your castings would be un predictable. you slake the proper proportions into water when making molds. the mix happens in the water. r.

yes that can cause bubbles but it is not the water. the water is all gone way before slumping temp. the wet kw just allows the glass to form a really even seal around any depression. the steam leaves . if it did not there would be an explosion. water expands by 200+ times when it goes to steam.

put alumin foil on a bowl or pan. add warm water and a handfull of baking soda. put jewelry in. tarnish will go away. the silver has to touch the aluminum for this to work. r.

lots of issues including annealing. first off do you have air holes in the low parts of the mold? you need those. in order to get help you need to state the thickness of the glass and your exact schedule up and down. r.

any water in a wet mold is long gone before the glass will move.

i like to elevate my molds off the shelf. it helps to avoid heat shocking the shalf and aids in evenivity. you can also put molds on the floor of the kiln if height is an issue.r.

like kevin says.my shop has those around all of my tables. way way way good on feet knees and back. when ever i work out on the pad or at another shop i ake up sore the next day. it really is huge. also they do n ot catch fire if you drop molten glass on them. very chem resistant as well. easy to dr...

i would use a tile saw and cut a 12 or so sided shape. . r.nevermind. i was focusing on the donut , not the hole. that said, there is easier stuff to make a drop ring out of if that is what you are doing.

i anneal bottle glass at 1000f. then drop at 85f/hour to 700f. i would anneal for at least 1.5 hours. you only have one shot at this so why skimp. r.

so you are going to lay them on their side with a dam on the flat side? it could work but you will get some 'interesting' folds i think............ i would do a test run with 2 regular clear bottles set up just like that. you will have to put a couple of little pieces of balled up fiber under the ed...
