Re: Newbie - What do I need?

I have the Kiln and the glass what else should I get? I need help with this so I don't purchase things I will never use. I tend to get carried away when I start something new. Thanks Ditto the suggestion to get Brad's book. As far as tools, materials and supplies -- that really depends on what you ...

Glass on Cape Cod

I'll be spending a week on the Cape in July.

Other than Sydenstricker and Chatham Glass are there any other glass places I should visit?

Thick BE annealing question

Does anyone know what BE recommends for 3/4" thick?

I have Graham's schedule -- just wondering how it compares to BE's recommendation.

Re: Technique or trick?

I was wondering what the general consensus is concerning the technique of sandblasting a piece, in my case the outside of a bowl, and then spraying it with a clear acrylic to bring it back up to a fire polish look. Is that considered a legitimate technique to do to a piece and then put it out for s...

To further complicate things different countries have very different laws when it comes to intellectual property. For example, in the U.S. the image of Rodin's Thinker is in the public domain. In France you can get yourself in a mountain of trouble reproducing it for commercial reasons without getti...

Is he firing on kiln wash or fiber paper?

If fiber paper there's lots in the archives about problems firing ground edges on top of it.

scratches

My inlaws have a door with glass windows. There are some fine scratches in the windows (someone wasn't too careful with a razor removing some stickers). The construction of the door makes removing the window impractical. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cosmetic repair to the scratches -- somethi...

Sculpey (and Fimo) are plastics -- they'll burn up at slumping or fusing temps. I believe the fumes produced when burned are toxic.

Re: More Bobble's Questions

I did a small test piece using BE on the bottom... a very thin wafer centered on the BE... and BE clear on top. This was done on thin fiber paper. I used the 'sqeeze schedule' 300 - 1250 - 60 1000 - 1510 - 15 999 - 960 - 30 210 - 700 - I STILL got bubbles! Any suggestions would be greatly accepted....

An even cheaper solution for firing while you sleep that has been posted before (and the one that I use) is to buy a used baby monitor (< $10 on Ebay) and set the controller alarm for 50 degrees over your top temp.

My wife and I just formed an LLC. The primary driver was reducing legal liability. Glass breaks and it is sharp. And people can be jerks.

Oh ya -- keep in mind the right decision will depend on which state you are in.

On serveral occasions I've read where people won't leave their kiln on its own on the way to full fuse -- but will leave it alone on the ramp down. Since the controller cycles juice on and off in both directions and since the fear is that it will get stuck in the on position -- isn't the risk the sa...

Re: Bubbles with the new Bullseye fiber paper

Single sheet of thin bullseye covered with strips of glass with frit between the strips. Bubbles have happened on multiple firings. Has anyone else...
