Re: diamond glass tile saw blade size

Thanks for the replies. I have a 7" tile saw already with good blade.
Wanted a small tile saw for straight cuts and some angles, but
convenient to set up and use in a pinch. Will probably take back the .012 kerf
blade and get a good .20 kerf from Rio Grande.

diamond glass tile saw blade size

Bought a 4" diamond blade at Lonnie's in Phoenix with a .012 kerf.
Seems pretty thin to cut fused glass pieces. Is there a better size kerf
to stick with instead of the .012. Have looked into the MK 303 4"
.20 Is that a better size? Thanks Val

I did decide to buy the Skutt clamshell in Canada through the dealer in Surrey. One of the reasons was that supporting a Canadian co. is a good idea; and this company did work with me re. the price. I liked the Euclid kiln and the Jen ken very much but far from my home and that caused me to lean tow...

I need to holler with relief

I finally made the mighty choice for my new kiln and it is a clamshell. I feel like an expecting Mom. I getting it early May and will be floating with happiness. Sounds totally silly but I have been in the art biz for 33 years doing so many different pieces in clay and other materials and at last gl...

Gas shock lifters on Clamshell's lid

How well has the gas shock lifters on clamshell held up? Has anyone had problems with them? Curious.... admirer of the clamshell design.
Also, very tired of heavy lids that have  cranky hinges.
My next kiln will have a user friendly system for sure.

Couple of different solutions that can be used: Use a fibrefax Or kaowool banket over the top of the kiln during firing to reduce the flow of heat upwards and better yet...invest in a orton vent system that will take fumes outside as well as keep the heat down a bit more. Like Brock said it is a goo...

Bringing kilns purchased in the US into Canada??

Just a general question about what to expect bring kilns bought in the US back into Canada. Is there anything I should do or expect to make the customs happening easier and less $$. I have my short list of which kiln I could love to use: Skutt Clamshell, The Glassglow 350, and the Euclid kiln..squar...

Hi Mark, Yes I have excuse the saying drooled over the glassglow design from what I seen in their web site, but they are on the highend of expensive when you convert US$ into Cdn unfortunately.. :( I am a sucker for beautiful designed kilns. I have built some big gas ones in the past and have lots o...

 thanks for the feedback on the Euclid kilns. I will be looking to get a larger round like the 23" or 29" with controller. Any problems with the lid elements sagging or pins dropping out? Are the kiln prices in Cdn dollars compariable with the US similiar models from Jen Ken? Just ver...

Euclid kiln operation feedback pros and cons

Looking at buying a glass kiln within the next month. Studio in BC, Canada and have been looking into the Jen Ken and Skutt kilns, but now have found out about the Euclid kiln existence, but know little about them. Looked into the archives and there is little there to inform me. Anyone have some goo...

A little advice needed on controllers/kilns..please

I am trying to select a controller and a medium size kiln to do my fusion glass pieces. I really love sculptures and that will be the future for my own glass pieces. But right now I am totally enjoying the pains and joys of learning glass fusion. I have looked at the skutt, evenheat, Jen ken, and th...

re: drying clay molds

Generally if you use clay that is intended for sculptural use it will be strong enough and reistant to shrinking to much. I use drywall scraps from building sites to dry most of my clay work onto even my clay molds for glass. I have been a clay artist for more than 30 years and have succeeded in mos...

Skutt kiln lids problem with dropping pins

Followed up on some kiln information threads re: Pros and cons on kiln makes; and there was an annoying problem with the Skutt 1414 lid with pins dropping out during firing. Is this still a problem, because that is one of the kilns that I am looking at to buy. I have an oval ceramic kiln from Seattl...

Drilling help

:) Thanks everyone for replying to my drilling inquiries. The dremel site doesn't support the use of their tools for drilling in glass...they should wake up and acknowledge glass as a material that needs some more tool and bits support. I have a 30 year old dremel that still works, but I might get a...

Drilling holes in glass?

Just would like to know what the wise glass artists with lots of experience use to drill holes into glass...the tool and bits use?? I would really appreciate some direction in this technical area. I have looked at the Dremel tool site on the net that doesn't support that type of drilling. Also, look...

New to the forum and must say it is terrific for new comers to the art of hot glass. Artist for 30 some years in clay and mix-media, but now have been bitten by the glass bug. I am involved with a commissiom work that entails gluing on relief fused glass to a glass backing and I used what my glass s...
