How thick are you trying to make these pieces?

I really like the sqares... they contrast nicely with the flowing lines, and I also like having the touch of green in there... makes it look a lot better, IMHO.

If I'm correct, it's to make a reusable mold that you can then use to make many plaster molds. It's not something that you'd want to use in the kiln! :) Page 3 of the following link from bullseye's "Get Smart" series talks about hydrogel, which I'm guessing to be similar to your hydracast....

I think it's awesome... That's something I want to do, to create glass quilt pieces... I love the perfection and caution needed for them. Of course, I need a bigger kiln than my 4 by 4...

good idea... I've gotten a LOT of great ideas from y'all (thanks!) and if I'm not too burned out from this project, I'll try something if I have the time! On a different note... One of the ladies in my glass fusing class (last day was today :( ) works with stones and precious metals.... and she GAVE...

while I've never potmelted before, the impression I get is that no, you don't need to kiln wash the pot interior... after all, you are melting out of it, and what little is left behind isn't worth saving, and using kiln wash inside the pot may even contaminate your potmelt.

Did the catalogs come yet? I'm not sure if I'm on their list or not...

For the lampworker situation, I would have approached the lampworker and politely tried to explain. I'm a lampworker, and have been for three years. At first, fusing really confused me... I saw no artistic skill involved, no difficultly, etc. However, rather than be disdainful, I set it in the back ...

In lampworking, at least, you want to take the glass up to a fully molten state to get rid of a crack... I suspect that it's the same thing, that those cracks will always exist unless you melt it down completely...

I'm assuming though that not all plaster is created equal... what sort of plaster? and where would I get silica?

And for my personal use, right now, I'd prefer something that's already mixed, where all I have to do is mix it with water... Something I can buy ready like that.
