The tin side was down on this one, or would that be in :D I've looked at it more closely since I took that pic. There are several places where the crystals had radiated out from the center of a dirt grain, like a snowflake, and a stray finger print here and there. At this point I'm wondering if it w...

Devitrification experiment... success!!
...Tyler Frisby's devit post got me to thinkin' about experimenting further. To this end I dirtied up a 19" glass disk and positioned it over a 2 tiered drape mold. I soaked the piece at 1325 for 15 minutes, then ramped it up to 1350 for 5 minutes. Afterward, I let it cool slowly to the anneali...

Hmmmmmmmm, I didn't consider the solvents in that equation :? Being clumsy and stupid, a kemper pen in my hands could be disasterous  I'm wondering if a medium point fountain pen w/steel barrel and internals would do the trick. I think I'll send an e-mail to Levenger about that, they'll proba...

Ok, now you've got me scared    I think I'll go line 'em up neatly across one of my work stations. I'm using one area to cut the glass, and the 2nd area to paint, while the 3rd area is piled high with crap    If I put the glass storage bins in the 3rd area, I'll h...

The units have some flex alone, but when they're stacked they lock into each other and are quite stable. That being said, I won't stack them more than 3 high, I don't wanna do confetti bowls just yet    I'd like to place them side by side on a long shelf, but there's no shelving in th...

...Working retail sucks for the most part, but I do luck out occasionally... http://members.roadfly.org/haut_mechaniker/fixtures.JPG ...These old toothbrush fixtures were gonna be tossed in the compactor. I immediately saw the potential, and asked for them. They're stackable, light weight, and can h...

I pulled the projects outta the kiln when I got home from work. Everything fused as expected, no problems with the float glass or frit powder, except the glass disks, and the puddles of glass lifted off the kiln floor without effort. I did get some interesting vit patterns on a piece of scrap glass ...

I only sprinkled the mica powder in a coupla small areas near the center, as an accent. The majority of the top disk was resting on the Uroboros frit powder, several different colors in parallel bands. I don't see why the top disk would have such a drastic change in viscosity, while the bottom disk ...

...I decided to do a full fuse today with several pieces that I worked on yesterday, including the Dali portrait prototype. I have 4 shelves stacked in the kiln. On the top shelf were 2-19" float glass disks with frit powder and some antique gold mica sandwiched betwixed the two. Anywho, I soak...

I found this message in the archive. Kinda hard to read, almost like a foreign language :? I'm intrested in doing patterned devit in combination with textural applications on the underside(float glass). I like the vit's iridescent sheen under strong directional lighting, and the velvety feel, espec...

...I recently purchased the entire color palate. I'm kinda surprised at the inconsistancy of the texture among the various colors. Some colors are super fine(Grenadine Red), others are so coarse that they won't stay suspended in the mineral oil(Spearmint Green). Reading thru their catalog, the size ...

Thanks for the heads up on the book recommendation, I'll look that one up on Amazon. I have some high res tiff images from the Book of Kells on a spare hard drive. I also wanna try something biomechanical(a la H.R. Giger), maybe even a tribute piece to Salvador Dali. I also like Peter Max... Whoa, I...

Several years ago I had sketched Celtic knots for T-shirt art. Being very rusty at this I decided to browse the web for Celtic knot sites, specifically looking for sites that explained the mathematics behind Celtic knot theory. Most of the websites I found didn't quite fit the bill, but I did come a...
