Going to try sand casting this week. Somewhere I thought I read you shouldn't use 90 because it may stick. Is this due to the softness of the glass? Thus I shouldn't use 96 either? Is float the only option? If so, where can I get some colored float frit? Thanks!

I'm going into my 2nd year of website hosting w/godaddy.com. They've been excellent and are only $7.95 a month, plus your domain name can be registered for $9.95 a month. They've been great. You also have access to all your website stats and you can see over the course of a day, week, month or year w...

Tooting my own horn!
Hi, everyone! After opening my first retail studio and gallery in October last year, the local paper came and did a story. It's in today's paper at: http://www.wcfcourier.com/articles/2004/02/22/news/lifestyles/b8f35d71d616ae7186256e400055ed9b.txt#top It's exciting for me because warm glass is still...

What the H*** am I doing wrong???????? Help!!!!!
For the last couple of months I've been concentrating on larger pieces (that is as large as my 18" kiln allows). Mostly pot drops. I've been working with WG now for over 3 years and really felt pretty confident as I embarked on some of these projects. My experiences have been less than satisfyi...

Duraboard firing?
Hi! Just got a duraboard from Marty at Centre DeVerre and per his advice, pre-fired to 1450 at 500 dph. Made me realize I need a decent ventilation system! Smoked the heck out of my store. Anyway, I have since used rigidizer and the board has been sitting for 3 days now. Marty said I would need to f...

Nigeria Order
My gut tells me to ignore this but about a week ago, I got an email from a guy in Nigeria inquiring about some of my pieces. I'm well aware of the email scams going on and get those kinds of offers frequently. This one is different. This person has sent his name, address, phone number, etc. and has ...

Need your thoughts
Hi, everyone! I'm attempting to post my first photo so bear with me if this doesn't work. I've been with this board quite a while but have never posted a photo partly because I'm chicken, and partly because I didn't know how. So here goes. I need your expert critique on my technique, execution and p...

Dead element?
Hi, everyone! I was firing today using my digital controller and the temp was at 1350 or so ramping up. Just a few minutes later, I looked at it and the temp was at 1250 and dropping. I checked the glass and it was only partially rounded, not even barely tack fused. I re-programmed and started the c...

Hi, all! Remember me? I've just opened my new retail warm glass studio. Had my Grand Opening last week and it was lukewarm. Anyway, I'm writing because I had an interior designer approach me today for doing commissioned work for some of the windows in the city's newest and largest convention center....

Just a funny!
Hi, everyone! Wasn't sure if this was the right forum but here goes! I just recently opened my first retail warm glass store. Had a lady come in the other day, breathless and agitated. "Do you have any feathers?" she asked as she burst in the door. (it was hard to keep a straight face!) &q...

Breaking problem
I had something happen that I haven't experienced before and need your ideas. I cut a 6" white tile (system 96) capped it with clear and put black zebra stripes on top of the clear with some black frit in between the stripes. Following the 96 firing schedule, I ramped 600dph to 1100 and held fo...

Thank you to all who have been reading my post and offering words of wisdom. You have all had such great suggestions and some ideas are new to me and I can't wait to try some of them out. I officially opened yesterday and have had little traffic but I'm not discouraged because I'm so backed up on or...

Opening New Studio
Hello everyone! After attending Warm Glass Conference in DC I came home to Iowa and knew I needed to expand what I was doing. There's nothing like rubbing shoulders with other obsessive glassers! Anyway, I am in the process of opening my first commercial studio and gallery. It will be on a very smal...

Shared studio space questions
I recently read Marty's post about Bruce Laughlin's plight in searching for new studio space which has prompted my question for those of you who have done this or are considering it. Currently, I am a fulltime artist working out of a home studio. I would very much like to expand and move to a retail...
