Don't know anything about CAG, but I did try slumping some old Youg and Wissmach and didn't like the results at all. The Wissmach devitrified something terrible at slumping temperatures. However, I do fuse regular Specturm glass frequently. I love the Baroques and fuse them to Spectrum fusible clear...

Linda,

I'm not looking at my records at the moment, but I slump Spectrum around 1100 and when I do a drop mold with float I fire to over 1400. If I were slumping float into a more shallow mold, I'd go to about 1200 or so.

Linda,

Personally, I would not try to slump float and BE or Spectrum in the same firing. It takes higher temperatures to slump float than BE or Spectrum.

Was the slump that didn't quite make it float?

Kathy, As a regular user of the Taurus II, I can tell you it is NOT messy. It's noisey and you get tiny bits of glass on you. Be sure you wear eye protection (not just regular glasses) and wear protection over your eyeglasses, if you wear them. I've cut hundreds of angel fish, manatees, dolphins. st...

Judd,

If you have any concerns regarding lead, I would use Super Spray. It's 99% lead free.

Congratulations, Vickie.

One word of advice. Take it slow and let the blade do the work. Don't feel you have to use it every day for it to be valuable.

Armstrong Float

Received a supplement to my Art Glass House catalogue today. In the supplement is shown the new Armstrong Float Fire 82. BTW, it ain't your mother's float. It's expensive IMHO compared to good old float. Prices start at $10.72/sf to $20.21/sf. Fifteen colors are shown. Has anyone tried this yet? Judy

Kay,

Just a few days ago someone posted with this same problem.

I think you can find some suggestions if you scroll down and check the posts for the last week or so.

Lizzie,

As Tony suggested, you'll learn a lot from the tutorial on the board.

One thing that is usually suggested to avoid kiln wash sticking to your glass is to fire lower and soak longer.

Tony, I'm with you. If it makes my job easier I'm all for it. I did buy a tile saw just recently but I know it will never do for me what my Taurus ring saw will do. Maybe there aren't a lot of people who cut angel fish, dolphins, manatees, etc. so they won't appreciate what a ring saw can do. But I ...

Vickie, I have the Taurus II and I love it. It all depends on what kind of cutting you want to do and the cutting I do cannot be done with a regular glass cutter. I don't use it every day but when I want to make my special panels I know I have the tools to do it. There was a discussion recently rega...

Mike,

Maybe more simply put is you're either letting air in your kiln, by what ever manner you wish, or you're letting fumes escape you kiln.

Borax

I've been corresponding with a friend of mine who is new to fusing and is having problems with devit or some type of haze. He's been viewing posts on our board and learned of Borax. Personally, I don't care for Borax as it seems to leave my glass blotchy so I prefer Super Spray. Be that as it may, t...

Hi Mike from Italy, When I refer to "venting my kiln" this means I'm either placing a small brick or kiln post under the lid to let fumes (glue, paint, super spray, etc.) out of the kiln. I usually vent to about 1000 degrees F. There are also some fiber papers that need to have the fumes v...

Bob,

I drape over Crest Molds quite frequently.

Does your mold have plenty of tiny holes in it?

Do you elevate your mold off the kiln shelf?

Did your glass flow over the edge of the mold causing this problem?

Two-part epoxy from Wal-Mart works well.

Rough up your bail/glass before applying the epoxy.

Tom, How do you apply the clear Unique? I took your suggestion first time I tried firing the copper between two layers of float. But I used a little sponge brush and the brush marks showed after it was fired. Do you use an airbrush? Also, what gauge copper are you using? I just received the sample f...

The only metal I know of on any Tanguerey is on the "Ten" Tanguerey. As you found out, the red button is plastic and can be put back on the bottle after it's fired. The metal strip on "Ten" can also be removed and replaced on the bottle after it's fired. Don't try Bombay gin in y...
