Sterling Silver Rings

Recently I purchased a dozen of Jim Berry's sterling silver rings onto which you can attach a cab. Question: Those of you who are also making these rings, what type of epoxy are you using? :?: I've made up about 6 just to see how the two-part epoxy I'm using is going to hold up. I'd hate to take the...

If you're using BE I'd check out their website.

I use lots of noodles and stringers with Spectrum 96 and I only fire to about 1400. I prefer "relief" firings and not a fully fused project.

Hope this helps. Maybe someone who's done the noodle ornaments will give you some input.

What kind of glass are you firing?

1550 sounds too high for Spectrum or BE.

Kim,

I see you're in the Tampa area. Do you order from Art Glass House?

If so, they have a square slumper in their catalogue. The 12" slumper is #30-8637. I've used it on many occasions and am pleased with it.

I have the Taurus II and they definitely tell you NOT to saw more than one single layer of glass at a time. I have cut a few fused small pieces that I wanted to redesign and went very slowly. But I would not stack glass and try to cut through it.

labels

Skyy vodka bottles are a challenge. After I pull the silver top portion off I spray oven cleaner on what's left of the label. I usually leave them sit overnight. Then I start with the scraper and Comet Cleanser. That usually works for me. I've also been introduced to a product called "un-du&quo...

Labels

To get the final residue off, use oven cleaner. Spray on and leave for a few hours. Then go over that with Comet Cleanser. Try to purchase the oven cleaner that doesn't smell.

labels on bottles

Charlie, Never tried "burning" one off. Most labels will come off after they've been soaked in water overnight. Some come off a lot easier than others. Jack Daniels & Jose Guervo are tough. You have to keep "slicing" under the label with a scraper. Bacardi can be "peeled...

Pot Melts

Thanks Randy. This is what I was searching for. I'd never make a good witness in a criminal case. I could have sworn you posted the pictures here on the bb. But now that I checked out the links, those are the pictures I remember. My great niece is spending 10 days with me during her Christmas vacati...

pot melt -- archives

Brock,

I checked Rob in the archives and he does indeed have a link to a site, but this person posted pictures of his flower pot on dams, etc. There was no link to a site. The pictures were posted on the bb.

Thanks for your help though.

Pot Melts -- Archives

A few months ago someone generously posted a compete tutorial (with pictures) of his pot melt. I printed the whole thing but now I can't seem to locate it. I've done a search but I didn't seem to turn up the particular posting I was looking for. Does anyone have a clue as to who posted this tutorial...

Bea, What brand dichroic are you using? There's been discussion on the board about different brands firing differently. I use only CBS. I mostly fire the dichro coated side down on black, blue, clear or red. I cap it sometimes with clear or with lighter shades of dichro. If capping it with dichro, b...

I've done this many times when I needed a specific "bottom" to hold pillar candles, but didn't need the large sides which the large mold would provide.

It works.

Of course Brad's not going to tell you to buy 110-J from him, but I will. I have found 110-J sprinkled with dry BE kiln wash is THE answer. You can order it through the warmglass board. It will last a LOOOOONG time and the backs of your bottles will be very smooth. The only bottles that will eat up ...

I've been using the Spectrum clear 96 double thick for disks and platters. I just place my design elements on the double thick, fire and get beautiful results. There's no need to worry about air being trapped between layers of glass and you get a "substantial" look.

Celeste, First of all, 1250 isn't nearly hot enough (in my kilns) to flatten a plain old wine bottle, let alone Grey Goose or anything else heavy. In my smaller Jen-Kens I fire to 1530 but only to 1450 in my oval Jen-Ken. I do not anneal smaller bottles, but I do program an annealing cycle for large...
