I agree with the previous posts. The main reason I have stayed with Spectrum is that I started, as a lot of people have, doing stained glass. Spectrum regular glass can be used for slumping and fusing likes with likes and that's exactly how I started in the fusing world. I had so much Spectrum I did...

Sharon, I'm pretty sure the grey you saw in the kiln was NOT the kiln wash. It was the 110-J. When you fire the binders out it gets sort of grey during the process. Afterwards it turns sort of white again. I don't put the dry kiln wash in anything. It might be too powdery to come through. I just put...

You can find a true description of 110-J on the board. It can be ordered through Brad. Try online catalogue. As for the dry BE -- just sprinkle it on the 110-J and it extends the life of the 110-J and gives your pieces a very smooth back. Regarding the SuperSpray -- this subtance is 99% lead-free an...

Mark,

When I fire float with or without inclusions I still fire both pieces with the tin side down.

I've done this with copper and with Pearl-Ex.

If I have to grind my cabs and fire them again I do put a little SuperSpray on the edges (insurance) but I fire them on my trusty 110-J covered with BE dry kilnwash.

You can order 110-J through the board. Brad will cut it to accommodate your kiln shelf.

It last forever when you sprinkle a little dry BE kiln wash on it and you'll never have to scrape your kiln shelf again.

Cathie, I didn't address your question regarding the bottles rolling. It really doesn't matter if it's a plain wine bottle. You just let it roll until it finds its center of gravity then move it back to where you want it. The problem with rolling comes when you have liquor bottles with print on them...

Hi Cathie, I've never fired a bottle into a mold. I always fire flat on 110-J sprinkled with dry BE kilnwash. You'll have to experiment with a firing schedule for your appropriate kiln. In two of my kilns I fire to 1530 for a nice finish. I fire my oval kiln only to 1450 for the same finish. I use s...

Pat, I believe you just received some extra rails. I have the same kiln, but 9" high. My frame doesn't have the extra rails on the bottom that you show in the picture. Maybe yours (13") is a little heavier and needs more support. :?: The longest rails are about 30". There are two of t...

Rosanne,

I don't think you'll be disappointed in the confetti, etc. for float.

I've tried the powder, frit & confetti. The yellow, cobalt blue and chrome green confettis are really nice.

Recently I purchased "BondWEL" at a trade show. I've tried it on bails to glass and glass to glass and am very satisfied. I don't know if it can be purchased in your area, but the distributor for it in our area is located in Charlotte Harbor, FL (941-764-6991). If I understood him correctl...

Karen,

If I understood your post correctly :?: I'd say totally fusing a 1.5 liter bottle in one hour is WAAAAY too fast.

There used to be a tutorial on the board regarding firing bottles.

My suggestion, SLOW DOWN.

Jan,

I believe Colin is correct. When I used to do stained glass I bought spools of tinned wire for making hooks. It was actually copper wire with a soldered lead finish.

Scott,

Go to the top of the page on the left "Old Archive" under "Warm Glass." Click onto that.

Then type in copper inclusions. I found lots of information.

I tried copying the link but I'm guessing since it's the old archives it didn't work.

Scott, I hope this works http://www.warmglass.com/cgi-bin/wgarchive3.pl?index This is a link to a discussion in the archives regarding copper inclusions. If this doesn't work, go to the archives and type in copper inclusions. There have been lots of discussions on different types of inclusions. Judy

Stacey,

I fire quite a bit of float myself and use the 1030 temperature for my annealing point.

Is there a reason why you are holding for 30 minutes at 960? :?:

Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm with Brad regarding the 110-J and possibly "being lazy." I hate stripping shelves. I haven't stripped a shelf and put new kiln wash on in probably two-three years. I use the 110-J exclusively and sprinkle dry BE kiln wash on it for a super smooth surface (thanks to Brad's suggestion). ...
