Re: Leatherbarrow's Crackle Book is Available
I bought this book and it is excellent. On the long list of projects to work.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?
Multiple people in my art village (about 40 artists now, going up to maybe 60) want me to give them fusing lessons because it looks so easy...just melt a bunch of glass together. I fuse in my home studio and do mosaics (many fused parts) and soldering at the village. I told them I got started 12 yea...

Re: slumping glass into a glazed ceramic mold
Absolutely love Lundstrom's Universal Mold Coat. Works like a dream. Can use glazed $1.50 dishes from Old Time Pottery. No need for holes if the slope is no higher than around 2 inches. This is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Re: Drying Wood in Kiln
Thank you all. This class project is a form of book art. My idea was origin to actuality...start with the log, some kindling, large open book and wire armature attached to the log, and then other parts attached to the armature. An evolution of sorts. The teacher is helping us to understand that the ...

Re: Drying Wood in Kiln
Thank you both so much. This log will wait out the next six months before becoming something else. Had found some kiln dried wood on craigslist, but when I showed the seller my project, he said he had the perfect piece for it and he was right. It is perfect; just can't be used! Will go back to craig...

Re: Drying Wood in Kiln
Darn it! I paid $4.00 for this piece of wood before thinking about how wet it was. It probably didn't help soaking it in a water and bleach mixture to make sure all the bugs were dead. May have to rethink my project.

Drying Wood in Kiln
Know this is a completely weird subject but I'm taking a sculpture class and had to find a short wood log for a project. My 12" long, maybe 8 " wide log is pretty wet. Is it possible to use my Paragon Janus at about 200 degrees to dry this out. Figure I have to leave the lid on the top not...

Re: Got Free Rods and Glass
Thank you all very much. I went with the Hot Head because it seemed to be at the non-killer level of investment for something that may be a passing fancy. Thank you very much for the site link, that will prove useful.

Got Free Rods and Glass
Someone gave me a whole load of glass rods, pellets, curly pieces, e.g., all supplies from a lampworker but no idea what COE. I took a one day lampworking class several months ago where we had a super nice torch set-up. Lampworking will be 4th in what I like to do, with glass painting/fusing #1, sta...
