Rosana...check out this website for a great table for what kind of release agent works with various mold and casting mediums. http://www.artstuf.com/releaseagent.html I use this table all the time. It's from Douglass and Sturges' website. They specialize in all kinds of mold making materials for scu...

Bebe....is there anyway you can put an unobtrusive thin steel lip/shelf below the pieces to provide some support? If you could do that and then have the pieces kind of stack on one another, along with silicone, that would be what I would do. As one who had a ceramic mosaic bas relief sculpture of th...

Hi Becca...I am not an expert on PDV, but I did take an afternoon workshop with Mel George last year. She says to mix the frit with Klyfire (can buy at Bullseye site...see link at top of page). You don't want it soupy and you don't want it too dry. Then she uses the back of a tea spoon to press the ...

Hi Judy...I saw the Cauduro pieces that were box cast at BE last fall and noted that there was some hazing on the back of the glass...didn't notice any puckering. Also, the hazing you got could be the result of firing plaster molds in the same firing cus sulfuric gas is emitted from the pl/sil mods ...

Monona!
How could I have forgotten to mention Monona?? I told you there was just TOO MUCH going on. If you guys ever get a chance to hear her you should definitely go. I've known about her for years in cyberspace, but never heard her speak. And, yes Dani, I agree she may be a bit too strident in some areas,...

BE Con report
Well, I haven't seen too much posted about BE Con. So thought I'd toss out my 2 cents. I thought it was fantastic! Bullseye, based on their usual high standards, put together an extremely informative conference with a wide range of artists that do various types of glass and a wide range of teachers ...

Hey Amy! One thing I learned from a Paul Marioni and Ann Troutner workshop (they do very large cast glass outdoor installations...usually comprised of many cast sculptural blocks) is that the steel and glass will expand and contract. They use silicone on all the glass blocks in their installations b...

Have you tried taking the shallow casts up to a higher temp (1700F or so) to get the bubbles to rise to the surface? I guess if you're doing that, using the flower pot method would work just as well. Anyway, that's about the only thing I can think of. Good luck and let us know if you find a solution!

ABQ
Hi christine...I don't live in ABQ, but I live in Santa Fe. There are a couple of other board folks that may add more about ABQ than I know. Mariposa Gallery in the Nob Hill area carries some glass work, among a wide selection of other media. Somei in the Old Towne area also carries some glass artis...

No, I'm not attending his class...I did consider it tho and would have if I could have scraped up a spare $2875!! I did hear him speak at GAS in Corning 2 years ago and it was fascinating. Some of the architectural kiln work he and his company have done is phenomenal. Here's a link to a description ...

modular
Hi Lani...wow, thanks for sharing those really cool pieces! Would love to see the show in person. I'm not sure if you mean modular...composed of smaller pieces, or modular....it can be moved. But the largest kiln-formed works I've seen are by David Ruth (http://www.davidruth.com). His website shows ...
