If the bubble is not inside the glass but just pushing up from the back then re-slump. What have you got to loose? I think you went way too fast, especially with a piece that is two layers thick and 14" I use BE so I would use this schedule 350 to 1000, hold 15 min 250 to 1200, hold 15 min ASAP...

I have found two remedies for kiln wash sticking to my glass. I do pot melts and shelf melts so I tend to get a lot of it. First, I sandblast everything and that does it in a flash. If I'm cutting the melt into slices, I have to blast the cut edges to keep from getting devit anyway. What size blaste...

I only fire during the day, but I often leave to run errands and such. I try not be gone for more than a couple of hours at a time. That way, if the controller goes out, I will be able to shut everything down before any major damage. I used to fight fire in a small volunteer fire department outside ...

I want to be able to open my kiln while it is hot and manipulate the glass so I rigged up a counter wieght with a block and tackle pulley system. It opens easily and holds the lid there until I am ready to close. Here is a picture of what it looks like. (ignore the cow on the wall, he keeps the bad ...

Thank you Jan, for sharing this site of wonderful work. Even though I could not understand the words, the art spoke volumes. Some of the pieces are challenging and some are poetic, but all are good examples of how interesting glass can be. This is definitely going in my Favorites folder.

Ok, this is weird. I was just down at one of the galleries and I was trying to show off my website, and damn if they didn't have a Mac and the home page had a white background. Great first impression! I need to find some more Mac users, to see if the problem is still happening. I use Adobe Photoshop...

How I take my pictures

When I first put up my web site a few people have asked me how I set up for taking pictures. This morning I had to take some quick photos of some pieces that I was taking down to a gallery here in town. I hope this helps. It really is a matter of trial and error. Thank God for Adobe Photoshop. If yo...

Uh..... WOW..... what else can I say. Some of your imagery is weird, but I like what you do. I think that your Hesse pieces and the Embodied Mind piece are your strongest. The little "pod" shapes are very appealing and give a sense of a metamorphosis happening, as in a sense of tension or ...

cone 018 to 019 would average out to be right about 1250 F.

Here's a useful chart to explain cone temp.

Aimee, I think that Jackie has a point there. Also, try holding at 700 for about 20 minutes. That is a stress point and it may help to do a little soak there. Hey, do you remember that big blue piece that blew apart when I tried to slump it. That was the third time in broke. So I smashed it up, took...

I think that you have asked THE question, but you have chosen a poor example. If she can get those prices, then I guess she will have to live with her conscious. I not so sure that I really mind if others are doped into believing that this is good work because it makes my work look all that much bet...

Just one more thought. I seldom use transparent yellow because at some point in the firing process it will change to opalescent. It may not be the first firing or even the second, but eventually it will happen. I normally use BE light or medium amber. It doesn't change on you and it may work better ...
