Re: Brass tube drilling.

Sounds like an old glazing setup. Yes, brass tends to embed silicon carbide grains into itself better than steel. Cast iron flat laps were equipped with an abrasive grain and water feed which dripped both onto the lap surface slowly. Something like that might could be set up on your drill press if y...

Re: Brass tube drilling.

Unless your drill press is a whole lot larger than mine the first snag I see is fitting the 1 inch brass tube into the drill press chuck. I would need to fabricate a plug that would fit inside the 1" tubing on one end and fit the drill press chuck on the other end. Here in Texas, USA I would go...

Have you considered LED lighting. Cooler running and lower power draw. Available in almost any color. Very long lasting.

Re: Pot Melt Questions ???

It should not be too hard to cut the expanded metal with a small to medium size pair of bolt cutters. Just cut across the sheet one junction at a time on a line at the long end of one of the diamond shaped openings. You may want to file or grind the cut edges to remove any sharp burs to make it easi...

Re: CMC formula

When I've been in a hurry for my 2% solution I have filled a widemouth quart canning jar 2/3 full of the hottest water I could get from the tap and had a stirrer mounted in my Dremel grinder running in the water when I added my 20 grams of CMC powder to it. After stirring for a minute or so I placed...

Re: Kiln problem - Paragon w/Sentry Xpress 3

You said you can program the kiln. This pretty well rules out a bad controller board. You said you can get a temperature increase on the readout by touching the thermocouple. This indicates the thermocouple is good and working. That leaves the relay, the wiring delivering the current to the elements...

Re: looking for tile frame

Rosanna, what size picture is this for? Do you want tiles already in the frame or want to put your tiles in lt? How wide a frame can you use? I have found picture frame molding with a nice channel in it but it is 3 1/4" wide and $7.50/ft unfinished. http://www.framing4yourself.com/picture-frame...

Re: using cookie cutters

A couple of additional thoughts. Frit cast items shrink by about 50% in thickness/volume from loose frit to fired glass so plan your clay mold to allow enough frit to be loaded into it to make the item 1/4" thick when fired. Also, load the frit so it is piled higher in the center of the cavity,...

Re: using cookie cutters

Low fire earthenware clay (cone 05-06) should fire to 1850F with no hold, natural cooling, no annealing needed for clay. If your glass kiln will not fire that hot firing clay to 1700F with a 20 minute hold will harden it enough to work but it will be more fragile than if it were fired to the hotter ...

That is making good use of the glass you had. The crystal shapes do remind me of tourmaline. If I see Ellen today I will remind her to look at this forum to see your pictures.

Re: Help Please

I would look in the yellow pages for your town under thermocouples to see if a local dealer has a suitable one in stock. For emergencies the lead wire between the thermocouple and the controller is the same thermocouple wire as the welded bead on the end of the thermocouple. I have been known to cut...

I have not noticed any trouble cutting across scored lines instead of along them. If you really worry about it you can flip the glass over for the second set of scores.

Les, I am more of a fuser at this time but am sliding toward some small casting. I have not worked with wax yet but do own some for use one of these days. Re: Cutting teensy bits

I have scored both ways as Rosanna said, run the scores in one direction starting in the center of the sheet then the center of each smaller sheet, etc. until all strips were one width wide. I placed a strip with the cross scored side down on a couple of sections of newspaper for the give in it and ...

Carla, all you need to do is remove the : and the numbers inside the first image tag in your signature using your control panel to have just [img] in front of your photo url. The new board added the size of the photos to the first image tag of all the photos posted on the old board. Only the origina...

That looks like the Glastar strip/circle cutter set up for cutting strips used to cut repetetive lengths from a strip cut earlier. http://www.glastar.com/catalog/reference/scc_instructions.cfm Another tool to produce the same results would be the Morton portable glass shop set up on the Morton surfa...

We would have to see at least the annealing side of your firing schedule to comment.
