Re: True Red Dichroic

pink striker is a color from bullseye, it "strikes" to a nice pink color during firing, before firing looks very pale blue. color #1215

Yes indeed. And it certainly influences that candy apple into a very nice red.

Sarah,

Most well established shops have their own contracts as well. Some are written pretty well while others are completely sided towards the shop.

I'll give repeat customers a discount. They qualify for the discount after purchasing three pieces. When approached for a discount by a completely unknown they get a story. The story goes: You ask me for a discount. Do you work for a company? If so, you demand a certain hourly wage or salary comensu...

Molly, Free form molten sounds interesting. I get those on occasion, by accident, called too much heat. It might work if you use a brand new soldering pad with no contamination. Soldering pads come in all sizes, find a large flat one. Be careful of the hot molten metal though, it'll spread far and w...

Molly - What will this finished silver be used for? Melting scrap is one thing, making it useable is another task. When heated to the melting point on a solder pad, silver and gold will tend to form a ball. Just as you said, ball right up. If you're trying to recycle then a solder pad will not do. Y...

Molly,

Borax is commonly used as a flux. You'll want straight Borax. You can still find it at many grocery stores. I believe the box is black and white.

Geri - I know several "hard core" jewelers who insist on rolling their own material. They begin with casting shot. I might might as well try it, right? No doubt it'll be more work than it's worth. Electric mill? Oh I wish. Nope, hand crank. Even my draw plate is the manual type. Good grief...

I just made a deal for an ingot mold. A member on Orchid wanted to part with one. It's one of those tools I've been waiting for. :P
Instead of simply using scrap for casting, I'll "roll my own."

Not to mention that wonderful burned cuttlebone smell. A little fishy.... Amazing what you can do with an old skeleton.

Great post. Metal artists tend to save all their scrap, old polishing wheels etc. Recyclers take it all then burn off the non precious metal stuff. A local recycler remodeled their facility and even burned their old carpets extracting years of silver and gold particles. Ever wonder what your dentist...

This past Saturday gave us an opportunity to visit the Connection at the new location. Adjusting to the new digs will take some time as it's very different than the old store. Facilities at the new location includes ventilation for kilns and torches. Nice viewing area too for videos. Being adjacent ...

I suppose we look at these things a bit differently than customers do. Earlier this year I visited six of my bracelets at a show in Idaho. They were all nasty looking. I couldn't stand it. The customers never take them off. ????? I took the bracelets one by one and cleaned and polished. Sparkled lik...

Mark - come on out. The Lincoln City show gives glass artists a chance to get together once a year. Moving away from the casino could be a very good thing. My work is a bit high end for the show but it's a fun event none the less.

Ouch. My view is more than protectional pertaining to my products. The idea is protecting your products as well. It's also about being respectful of the event rules.

I'll get of this soap box now.
