Re: Jen-Ken Kilns
My Jen-Ken mama kiln is the oldest in my studio, other than having to replace relays periodically, it is a work horse. after 11 yrs just starting to see some sagging of the elements a bit here and there, nothing major. bought an olympic square kiln a few years ago, seeing element issues - sagging ou...

Re: Kilns
i doubt it is the kiln wash. i have a jenken that i have fired in daily with kiln wash for 11 yrs, my mentor had 3 jen kens she fired in with kiln wash daily for many years and they never had this level of trouble. i live in the southeast, land of the humid with my kilns in what would be a garage. t...

Re: MK -100 saw water source
i went to a large pump from lowes used for outdoor fountains and do have to change it out after a couple of years depending on amount of use. with the pump in a bucket of clean water you shouldn't be getting clogs in the spray nozzles. is some of the spray from cutting going into the bucket? i feed ...

Re: 24" inch round Kiln Shelves
i have corelite shelves for both mama - 24" jen ken "round" - and papa - 28" square olympic - kilns. LOVE them! i only use kiln wash on them, often cheat and just add 4 layers new kiln wash on existing kiln wash unless i've had opal glass pull up the kilnwash. they clean well wit...

pat, while you don't "have to have" any specific thing, as one of the other responders mentioned, good navigation is a must. you might want to outline on paper the main pages and any sub-pages under them - then tweak it until you're happy. once you have the organization laid out - which wi...

Re: Tile saws for cutting glass
the hot dog blade will give you alot of chipping on the bottom edge. it's fine for cutting up kiln shelves but for glass you need a finer blade that gives a better cut.

i don't use any coolant in my water, i get very good blade life just with water which doesn't gum up the pump.

Re: Tighten saw blade
i have an mk101 pro and use the provided wrench to hand tighten the nut when changing blades. you should be able to rotate the blade by hand afterward. if i have trouble getting the nut to loosen i use something to hit the wrench with a couple of times to start the nut loosening, like hitting the ca...

Re: Tile saws for cutting glass
haley, the hot dog blades are really not the best for glass. the 303 professional or the 215gl are much better. the 215gl will be the slower of the 2 blades. there is the issue of chipping and chewing out the under corner at the end of a cut, the 2 blades i use minimize that. kinglsy north lapidary ...

Re: Tile saws for cutting glass
do NOT use the hot dog blade! i use an mk diamond 303 professional or 215gl blade - mostly the 303 professional as it is faster than the 215gl and a slightly thinner kerf - .032 i get them from kingsley north lapidary supplies

Re: Buying Taurus 3 - which extra blades should I get?
for cutting multiple layers i recommend the speed blade, time effective, last the longest of the blades for the t3 and cuts thicker pieces well. i only use the standard blade for cutting a single thickness of glass - 3mm or 2 mm.

Re: Using a tile saw chips glass. Is this normal?
other options to the result blades are the mk 303 professional blade and the 215gl blade - they cut very well for jewelry and are a bit more cost effective than the result blades if cost is an issue...

Re: Current info on ring saws
i use the taurus 3 for production, depending on what i'm doing i use either the speed blade - so far the longest lasting - or the mega blade. the standard blade is for single thickness - up to 3mm - only or you can break it - yes, i've broken 2 way back. despite the plastic used, it's held up well f...
