At times I sprinkle kilnwash on the shelf for texture. After firing to approx. 1480 degrees I typically just sweep the loose wash/powder into the trash. Could that powder be reused or has all its value been fired out?
Just curious of others opinions,
Nanette

I did go shopping and when I got home I put on gloves and glasses and pulled that base right off!! The colander has a lip on it, so I put the colander upside down on the floor with my feet on the lip and pulled and pulled and pulled till that base came off! Then filed off the little nubs left on the...

I haven't tried to see if the cloudiness will come off! I do want to refire the piece to drop it a little farther and I was wondering if the cloudiness would go away then...maybe it won't! I don't know that paint remover would do anything...I figured it was in the glass now, not on the glass. I also...

Thanks so much for the input. You know I never thought about the lead vapor if they are soldered on. I will check for the dimples before I buy the colander. I do know that I could almost pull the base off at the store! Thanks again for all the ideas, think I'll go shopping after work today!! Nanette

Colander base removal
I found a great S/S colander but it has a base on it that would need to come off. Any ideas? Looks like it is tack welded on in maybe in 4 spots. Also any guesses on how hot one would have to take the glass to get it to go thru the pattern cut into the colander? Maybe 1550 or so? Don't want to do th...

Cermaguard and drop dish question
I have done this procedure a lot: 3 layers of BE clear already fused and drop through cermaguard - no problems. This time the glass that was on the cermaguard has divit - why do you think that would happen? I did and always pre-fired the cermaguard to 1400. Do you think I should put kiln wash on the...

Question for Cindy about love
Cool Cindy! What kind of sand did you use? Did the sand stick to the glass?

I agree with Mike on this. Try firing Wasser at a lower temp and you'll probably like the results much better. I use Wasser a lot and haven't had any problems. If you're going to do a lot of firings on one piece I have found good results with holding longer at each firing so when the piece is done i...
