Have fired a tray and it has several spots resembling water spots or devit. Can these be sanded and then refired? Or polished out? Thx, Jack I have not had enough occasions to be sure that this works every time, but have had refiring with Super Spray overglaze remove the white outline of water spot...

Without seeing your pieces, my guess is that it is kiln wash stuck to the bottom of the glass, the chewing-gum-on-the-shoe of kiln work. Possible removal methods: Long soak and vigorous scrubbing. Excellent suggestions from both Jo and Ron, but also avoid having a two layer part of the piece above the air holes.
