Marty, Still can't find any information on the HIS website for vari-etch OR ammonium biflouride. Does it come as a solution or as a powder to be mixed with water? Otherwise it sounds like it's worth trying. Do you know what the pH of the solution is? Did you decide to use a vapor hood because of th...

Just about all of the lowpriced halgoen track systems these days have a 120 vac to 12 vdc transformer built right into each track light fixture. Using the inverter adds cost to the system but reduces the labor content to get the system up and running, no rewiring of anything. At 12 vdc, each lamp dr...

If only certain colors turned dark then there is a reaction between the glass color and the Back Magic. I know if you put any lead bearing overspray on BE French Vanilla it will turn dark.

Just saw into it a little and then test and see if the blade cuts glass better. You need to go at least as deep as the diamond band around the edge of the blade. You shouldn't have to make a whole cut off the end to get results.

If the fire brick is a hard one, most fire brick used in kilns are too soft.

Black Magic (Back Magic) has a high lead content and wil turn dark in a reducing atmosphere in the lkiln. I don't know if the process is reversible if you fire again with the vents open.

I need to drill a perfectly centered 3/4" hole in an 8" felt buffing wheel. Any ideas? Thanks, Steph Assuming the buff already has a hole in it (1/2" or 5/8") this technique will get you about as centered as you can get. Clamp a board to a drill press table and drill a hole in t...

Copper will develop a heavy layer of black oxide if heated in the kiln to slumping temps. Even with a coat of kiln wash they won't work.

If you like some of the shapes you could make a ceramic clay mold of the shape.

Thanks Steph. I'll give it a try. The brown is just to soft and sticky and isn't any fun to work with.

I tried a nice machining wax which makes great models but the high expansion rate of the wax causes cracks in the molds before it me...

I have an element that has crept out of its channel in the side of my 'round' Paragon. The wire is particularly stiff and thick and I have not been able to stretch or pinch it, even while warm, to get it back in the channel. It's just hanging out there. I have heard of a special plier that is used ...

It's a balance between glass volumes that is giving you trouble. The dichro piece is trying to shrink and the irid coating gets pulled with the glass. You might try sandblasting the irid coating right under the dichro piece and see if that helps, or go for just a tack fuse of the dichro piece on top...
