Rock on Steve! Thanks.

I think I'll baffel and use your schedule. I'll let you know how it comes out.

The pieces are between 1/2" and 5/8". The crecent is 20" across. The kiln is a 13"deep oval that is about 36" long and 22" wide. The elements are top and side. I can't turn one set off or on, it's a combo thing, whatever the controler tells it to do. When I cast the cre...

Baffeling

Ok, I am making a crecent shape and want to slump it over an arch of ss with fiber paper over it. I just want to make sure that baffeling the tips on the way up and down is what I should do. Need conformation, Please. Thanks, Amy PS, I will obviously go slow, like 200F/hr, and annealing schedule wil...

Wow, the waterhole piece really struck me as the strongest piece. It has a sense that there is more and we are only getting a small piece of the whole. The compostition is wonderful, would love to see more in this series...

Technically when you make the piece it is automatically copyrighted. If you would like to register the copyright then you should go to the web page, which happens to escape me at the moment, to get all the info you need to register your copyright.

Geri,

I personally prefer to use kiln worked. I think it sounds more professional.

That's my vote.

Larry I don't do pot melts but I do do high fire work. My experience has been that the irid. burns off. It's doesn't cause any problems in high fire work at all that I can tell.

Hi Jerry, Ok, I'll be the one to admit that yes I do have a belly ring... I also have a glass charm that hangs from it. Jackie is correct in that someone with a freshly pierced bellybutton should not take it out for several months. I have taken mine out several times because I was having surgery, bu...

First what brand of kiln wash are you using. Some are better than others. I used to use High fire, had some terrible experiences. BE solved the problem. Second what temp. are you firing to? I do high fire work and the kiln wash needs to be re-done every time. I also put it on very thick and mix it l...

That's very funny Bob!

I do something similar to what you do. When I am up in the middle of the night I listen for the click of the relays and sometimes I go down to check them.

Thanks Patricia. I'll check it out. I have a pretty open dialoge going with the gallery and it's owned by artists. So they are pretty receptive. So it's not like I'm fighting with them at all. Like AZ, WI has a similar law, so I will continue discussing this topic with all my galleries. As for Cynth...

Marty, I believe I understand what you have said, but wanted to make one point and see if there is a solution. I can say with quite a bit of certianty that 99% of my firings are 17hrs long or more. I agree with you about the safest way of monitoring your kiln is to always be there. But what do you d...

Points well taken.

The gallery I was speaking of before is insured but thier agent has told them to not release that information and try to have the artists insurance cover the work. This to me is like lieing...but maybe I'm wrong.

Ellen, Good to know but my guess would be that the professional packer was the one with the insurance that paid. The one time I did have a piece professionally packed, granted it was MBE, the piece broke because they didn't know how to pack glass. (only 1 box with foam in place, bad combo) Anyway, M...

Ok, I have another question that might be on a larger note. Does anyone self insure their work when it's in a gallery? I know many people just rely on the gallery's insurance, but I was talking with one of the owners of a gallery I'm in and their agent was pushing them to not insure the work and tha...

Tony,

I'm not that worried about my plug. I don't leave my house for more than a day very often and if it goes bad I'll just replace it.

Earlier I was just relaying what Marty said to me and he has much more experience with kilns than I do.
