Interesting project you have going on. How much room have you allowed for disc to expand in circumference to get the 6mm thickness? Basic maths I know but it is the morning here. As mentioned, bicarb soda mixture can work. I've either applied with airbrush then removed sections once dried and have also used an ear bud to apply,try and keep mixture mixed.
