Bubble block progress, not.
Below are first two attempts at bigger bubble blocks. Schedule is a combined effort between 100mm cast and a 30mm anneal, I was before myself when I thought I had it nailed. Have a few thoughts how to correct two very different failures, it's bloody science. I'm going back to a stack of clear and on...

TALISMAN 003.JPG TALISMAN 009.JPG This thread has had me on a hunt, not for long but still the same it's a shame that something special personally can be tucked away without much thought until prompted. Still kniave with glass but this was done back in '99 before a solo trip to PNG. Grandfathers as...

Re: How was this made?
Could it be called hollow cast. Emma Camden has a lot of work in the past with cores. Haven't seen any of her work with this sort of detail but it would have to be along the same principles. But then again I am probably wrong.

Re: Control bubbles
I'm with you Havi when it comes to bubbles. Have just set up kiln to have a go at bigger bubble blocks, have gone conservative for the moment with the schedule until I get a better idea of maximum wall thicknesses once bubble is formed. Really want to understand best temp to control rise of crown wi...

Re: compressing glass
Hey Paul, got an inquiring mind when something captures my interest. Was thinking about your thermal mass problem along with why you can't just make a retaining ring with a 31cm diameter retaining ring/dam and just cook until you get dam full, making sure that the shelf is very level. But if it is t...

Re: compressing glass
Interesting project you have going on. How much room have you allowed for disc to expand in circumference to get the 6mm thickness? Basic maths I know but it is the morning here. Just wondering if you have allowed big enough shelf, top and bottom and that the stops don't contact the disc. peace, haydo

Thanks Bert, it's going to be less noisy and messy with the brush. Will just have to play with it to see if I get the results I'm looking for. peace, haydo

Re: Painting Class
Good tip Don, some of those glass paintings are awesome. Can this sort of work hold up to a multi layer piece to form a block of glass, say four to six inch cube? So we are talking about serious heat time. Was going to go down the path of using backfilled engraving, looking at the work in the images s...

Re: Control bubbles
As mentioned, bicarb soda mixture can work. I've either applied with airbrush then removed sections once dried and have also used an ear bud to apply, try and keep mixture mixed. One way to rough up the glass is to use a diamond bit on a Dremel or similar tool, making sure to scrub worked areas. Only...

Crackle background piece.
Back in Nauru after a fair chance of getting things on the move during my last time at home, ticked all boxes but bad timing. Allowed me to really examine if I could be bothered to wait for a new manager to settle in on Hamilton, so it is now plan P again. Have pulled out of an artist driven gallery,...

Re: Vitrograph Cane
Not sure when I started doing this, but I lay one piece of dense white at the bottom of the pot to cover the hole and then proceed to jam pack the pot with glass right down to waste fragments to fill the gaps. My thinking is that maybe the white being a stiffer glass will support the mass of glass a...

Thanks Haviva. Latest samples will be going to Hammo while I'm away. A few reckon I should be excited,no use getting to the end first. But I'm a bit like my contract in Nauru, if I'm on the plane I know I'm going somewhere. Just this afternoon while sorting things in my yard(tiny) before fly out. I ...

What is it? For me it seems to be to find a lifestyle that encapsulates all that is missing. I find it harder each year to pose as the functioning being that fits the model that has been set for me. At the moment I'm enjoying a reprieve as a remote fitter/dogger/trucky. I have always wanted to be cr...
