Re: Eimeo Creek
Thanks Vonon. The difference you see in the close up is of a mini aperture pour with layers of clear and clear irid on top nestled among a grouping of murrini. Had to be capped to give slightly higher height than murrini to counteract too much flow of elements. I was going to let you go with the ide...

Re: Second plate for 2017.
Your words are very kind and much appreciated Vonon. Getting that appreciation of work is important, little rewards at the end are welcome. I'm happy that you took your time to consider this piece, that's all we can ask for, being makers and or creators of things. At the moment I'm learning to be ev...

Re: Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
More importantly Jen is that I hope you didn't cop any grief from this system. Rocky is still waiting for the inland water to reach them on Wednesday. I am grateful for coming away from TC Debbie only lightly touched. No time for studio but have been inspired by stories from those that have been badl...

Re: Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
Hey Jen, it's a case of no way Jose. Former young apprentice reminded me that I didn't need a ladder for a stunt. Will most likely head down to the beach tonight at high tide for a lesson. I guess without formal training, my bravado is to distract from the possibility that my home maybe lost. Had ju...

Re: Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
My problem is that I am crazy, well the potential anyway to runamok again. It shouldn't be a race, but often feel as though I'm in one. The thinking always positive toward a new direction that would help realise more time in the studio. It's nice to produce some things that have deep meaning to me b...

Re: Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
Cheers Jen, I don't mind seeing nature at its best smash itself against the coastline. I do feel for the unfortunate who feel the wrath through total destruction though. Big tidy today and batten down day tomorrow. During all of this my new venture into concrete hasn't weaned. I feel it won't take m...

Re: Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
Flaming humidity made me do it, haha. Felled a tree the other day and almost as quick as you could blink a cyclone started to form off our north coast. Out of respect for other houses it has been all focus to clear the mess and any other loose items. I could apologize to Don. On Nauru our crews favo...

Everyone needs a boost once in awhile.
Still on the treadmill of security in the modern world. However my current new role as a temporary worker(read as be screwed whenever) is at a major dealership of a major brand of earth moving equipment. I have learnt to work with a handicap. So many rules, so much paperwork, so much BS, however the...

Eimeo Creek
As you can see in the close up I've had some issues with cold working, another time. This is from the inspiration I get from being able to witness the the changes of this tidal mangrove creek and is a revisit to a piece I made in 2003. Got to get back to the serious business of finding a day job. Ti...

Re: First plate finished.
It's great to get compliments and positive feedback. I guess that's why I went for the shotgun effect doing these, all very different apart from the basic shallow form and the murrini buttons on the underside. Conversation at home about taste is never finished, ongoing. Kind comments by Jen and Dana...

Re: Third plate for 2017
Thanks Kev. You're right, that's what my young blokes reckon about commissions and why I should just muck around in the studio. A former workmate suggested to me that I should target the personal custom baptismal bowl idea and my wife has been on to me for years to do bowls and plates. I always thou...

Third plate for 2017
This one came about as the other two, not enough large sheets of glass so needed to think a bit. My son would come to stay up here whenever his job took him away from Brisbane and out to the mines or coal ports. My wife and I both noticed how he would be always looking at a thick murrini slab mounte...

Re: First plate finished.
Don't have to worry about buyers. My eldest was prompted by his younger brother to come up here and get me motivated. He came up and told me to forget about trying to find a commercial product, just get in the studio and do whatever I wanted when I wanted. They would take care of getting my work out...

Second plate for 2017.
This is the second plate, similarly constructed by using what was on hand at the time. The idea at first was to continue the placing of smaller and smaller pieces of glass to achieve a blending in the greater portion of the plate opposite the design panel. Ain't nobody got time for that, in my impat...

First plate finished.
This is a plate started in late 2016. The bulk of the work was done in this last month so I consider it my first for 2017. Made some blunders due to poor judgement when it came down to prepping the piece for slumping. Short story is that considerable effort went into cold working the formed plate be...

1-2017 start on bowls 001.JPG 1-2017 start on bowls 002.JPG This is a work still in progress. Will be experimenting with the angle on base edge to see if a more precise end to cane can be achieved. I don't bother going too short but it's great for repetitive longer lengths. Making the base more acu...

Re: Murrini
Jim,it's a bugger when you want to set up with the murrini placed in a certain position due to patterns etc. All it wants to do is have a mind of its own. Had a piece like that last year, remedied it by finishing ends on the flat lap as each had to be orientated. This week I cut 5mm thick murrini fro...

Re: Bit of light helps.
Appreciate the compliment Tod, especially of being engaged. I'd guess that is what we'd all like,is people who view our work manage to see it. My wife hasn't been keen on it from the start but now with proof of how it may look with LEDs is looking forward to the day when it sits on her bedside table...
