I have a hand made cabinet. It is made from an old shipping crate. It is small and I am ready to get something bigger. How do you deal with the pressure pot with the cabinet? I don't mind scooping the blasting material back into the pressure pot.

That is so true Tony. I know with the people sculptures I don't mind that there is still some definition where a piece has been place on top such as a little square etc. It is a balance of time and temperature surely. Your work may benefit from a full and level fuse whereas someone else may not want...

Good question Marty. Lets see if you anneal too long does it fall off the bones...Oh that could be a good thing...or if not enough...Just stick it in the Microwave... Hey why don't we have a microwave to just to fix our little undone things for glass? Some kidding aside, I think why I wrote the orgi...

Fusing Schedules like cooking a chicken
Every time I get on the bulletin board I am amazed at the variations in schedules and dos and don'ts. When I took my first class about 12 years ago from Newy Fagan. She told us that fusing was a little like cooking a chicken. You can cook it at different temperatures and for different times and ofte...

I have a KL60D and I love it. I have had it for about 2 1/2 years. I fire about 3 times a week sometimes everyday. I have had no problems with the lid. I have had to replace the shelves...no problem. I have recommended the kilns to several friends and they have been happy as well. The fiber is holdi...

Hi Jaye Lesley here, I usually glue the glass down so that it won't move. You get very little frit under the glass that way. (Remember, it only takes a tiny bit) However, in some instances, I glue, tack fuse, and flip the piece over and full fuse again to get really tight pieces. I find that my sche...

I just bought a little air polisher from GranQuartz. I am waiting for a fitting from them so I haven't used it yet. One of the things that I have found is that the air requirements are quite high. Many of the compressors out there today can not provide enough air unless you have one of those really ...

Brock, Mary van Cline is the artist I was thinking about but couldn't remember her name. Thank-you for the link. Tony, I remember you showing a piece you had done with white enamel on black...I think or maybe the other way around. You brought it with you to WGW II. Was that the half tone you were ta...

Photos on glass
I have seen some beautiful work with photographic images on glass. If I am not mistaken the glass is clear. I don't really know if that matters or not. However, I wondered what process this was. I know it can somewhat be done through silk-screening but I was curious if anyone knew more about it. My ...

Building a Lap Machine
I am interested in building a machine, or should I say having my husband build one. I have seen the plans on HisGlassWorks and would probably use them. I would love to hear from those who have already done this. Any comments, suggestions, etc.
Thanks
Lesley

I haven't been on the board for a while. I have been busy in my studio making stuff for a few openings....WOW what a conversation. You guys have really been from one point to another...Is Craft Art?, What is Art? Who Cares?... well you know what you have been saying. However, to answer Catherine's i...

Palo Alto CA Galleries
I will be traveling to the Palo Alto, CA area for a week in July to visit family. They are not interested in art so they would not be a good source of galleries.
I would love some pointers for the area maybe San Jose as well.
Thanks,
Lesley

I am going to step in and add my 2 cents as well. Good question, Tony. 1. I am thankful to all those artists in all mediums that have come before me as they are all an inspiration. 2. I am thankful for the teachers I have had in the past who were all extremely generous in the depth of knowledge that...

The work is very much like Judy Hill. She creates hollow dresses and paints the interior of the dress. She then has added raku heads and limbs. They are self portrait in nature. I was lucky enough to take a class from here in Jacksonville, Florida. Some great techniques that I am ashamed to say I ha...

I use elmers glue diluted with water 50/50. As mentioned before, you do have to use just a tad. If you use too much you can create carbon bubbles. This is where as the glue burns off, the carbon residue is trapped in the glass. The bubbles are black/silver. To prevent the bubbles use only the smalle...
