Re: glue on bales

If you look at the failures, you will see that one or the other of the attached pieces has all the adhesive. The other one is improperly prepared.
Again, check my tutorial. It explains it all.

Re: glue on bales

What are you using as an adhesive?
A smooth surface is not what you want to adhere to.

I have a tutorial on my site (see below) about adhering bails.

Re: Glass/Cash Survey

I laugh when i see a glass jewelry vendor with his/her pendants in those black sectioned trays. They are telling their customers that their pendants are cheap and plentiful. Sharon (my wife) used to set up the booth and just about every piece was separately displayed. Our backstock was under the cou...

Lynn,
If you give a class or ebook on how to do that, I would take it.
I really like the results!

Re: Concerning firing enamels

As to burning out, that should not happen at all. It is possible that the pigment in the paint has decomposed. Do not trust the color of the unfired paint to indicate the final color. Covering the paint has no benefit in retaining the color. You should be able to paint and refire. The refiring only ...

Re: How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour

Red and gold are two problematic colors for dichro. Several years ago I bout a large amount of scrap from ATF. Included was a small (about 2x4) piece of a dull, ugly reddish dichro. When it fired it became a gorgeous 24kt gold. I sent half the piece to Glenn Brown at ATF and asked if I could buy sev...

Re: How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour

I don't know if they still do it, but both CBS and ATF made sample sets of their colors with a 2x2 piece of each color.
I bought these and cut them in half and fired half. I mounted them together for a sampling of each before and after. Even with these, there is some variation.

Re: COE 90 frit balls ok on COE 96 Christmas trees?

I use a little bit of my paints....just a dot, to attach the balls. This seems to act as a buffer for the differing COEs.
Remember the contact area is very small.

That is quite unusual. The stuff is quite precious and usually is sold in a small (2dram) sealed bottle.

Forgot:
Two types, but you probably have the one that fully matures at about 1350 (but 1300 usually works fine)
Other kind matures lower.

Re: Ceramic gold luster

Works fine on glass
Needs to be applied very thin, not puddling.
Vent the kiln up to 1000 then close.
Works well but is difficult to apply.

Re: FIRE POLISHING

This is just an academic question as I don't do any pieces larger than 2x2. But: why could you not heat the piece to about 900 to 1000 (F) and stabilize there. Then, raise the temp AFAP to tack fuse temp, hold for a short time, then crash to 900. The curing of the scratch problem is a surface proble...

Use a low temperature flux, or a glass paint as a glue. I've done a lot of these.

Re: sanding edges of drilled holes

Thanks Lynn, Didn't know Dan quit selling the bits. He had lots of diamond items at very reasonable prices. About 5 years ago I bought a lifetime (and my kids lifetimes) supply of 1.25mm bits. I have a very easy and accurate way to drill the holes. No mess or skating across the surface. Uses a ball ...
